Wolfwing lists, tactics and discussion

Unbeknowst to me, there was a thread already started when, a week or so back I tried to start this same kind of thread. Sorry about that Krewl.

I got bored with all the razor spam, yet I wanted a list that could double as fun and fluffy, and still kick some ass. This would be why I chose to move to a Loganwing army instead. Plus I really like the look of the TDA. Anywho, I wanted to drop in and add my two cents to this thread, the first of many cents, or scents, or possibly no sense!!

At 1500, this is what I am running:

Logan

Rune Priest

TDA

Rune Priest

TDA

5x Wolf Guard

5x TDA/ 2x Combi-Melta/ Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield/ Power Fist/ Cyclone Missile Launcher/MoTW

Drop Pod

5x Wolf Guard

5x TDA/ 2x Combi-Plasma/ Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield/ Power Fist/ Cyclone Missile Launcher/MoTW

Drop Pod

5x Wolf Guard

5x TDA, Assault Cannon/ 8x Wolf Claw

Drop Pod

Lone Wolf

Storm Shield/ Chain Fist/ 2x Wolfies

I have yet to model up the Lone Wolf only because I cannot find either a left handed Chain Fist, or a right handed Storm Shield!! Any suggestions?? I looked on fleabay, and found nothing of use there. Even the GW main site didn't give me a clear enough view of some of the other chapters Termi boxes to know where to look...

My first game with this list in on Thursday afternoon, against Space Elves. A decent amount of shooty to go up against and at least one squad of fire dragons (??), a autoarch thingy, and three wave serpents is the usual list that this player runs. We'll see how I fare against it.

assuming you meant a right handed chainfist.

take a right handed wolf claw, cut off the blades, then take a regular chainfist, cut off the fist so the chain is looking good, add it on, add some green stuff, there you have a right handed chain fist ^_^ (I made one but its at a slightly dodgy angle, will probably remake one), not too great picture of it on my wip thread here.

Gah!! That I did, thanks for the catch nurglez!!

That seems like a lot of work. I may just file down the storm shield fist and glue it backwards onto an already severed left arm. Less work, more lazy!!

its not really that much work to be honest, i just messed up mine.

basically cut off the chain part of the fist, destroying the fist if you have to, then just cut the claws off the right claw and sand it down, I'm gonna re do mine i think, and there's not many right handed chain fists around so it will be unique :)

I ran a list loosely made up of the following:

Logan

Thunderlord

Rune Priest

WGTDA x5 in pod

WGTDA x4 in LRR with Logan. CML x1 detached to Long Fangs

GH x10 in Rhino

GH x10 in Rhino

TWC x1

TWC x1

Fenrisian Wolves

Long Fangs x6, ML x5 with Razorback

End of game, WGTDA held two of three objectives out of four. GH pack held last one and Rhino contested fourth. Was a strong list at 25000ts and was happy with my hybrid Loganwing.

It's easier to make right-handed storm shield than right-handed chainfist, IMO. That's what I did as well. I can post some pics, since this Lone Wolf is actually a part of my vow for the forum painting challenge. The conversion is even easier to see, since couple of days ago my cat was hunting at night and he knocked that mini off the table, so now I have three separate parts of this :D

just made a second right handed chain fist, really not that difficult :) though the digital camera i borrowed has been given back, i'll try and post a pic from my phone

meh, phone fails, here's a better pic of the right handed chain fist I replaced as its a bit wonky.

right, well my current list is:

1500 points

logan

runepriest termie

lone wolf termie chain fist storm shield

lone wolf termie thunder hammer storm shield

3x5 wg termies, cyclone, storm shield, powerfist, 2 combi melta

5 wg termies, assault cannon, 2 storm shield, 2 powerfist 2 combi melta

but I am rather short on movement, having to foot slog everywhere has cost me the 2 games i've played so far, bought 2 drop pods and also have a landraide redeemer.

so i either lose 70 points from that list and add 2 drop pods, or remove the assault cannon for a flamer and lose a powerfist somewhere to add 1, or i lose a squad and a lone wolf to add in a redeemer and 2 drop pods, really not sure what to do, 1500 points is really annoying...

Or yes i could try and convince my friends to play 2000 points, but for one of them, he only has a small table and the bigger one is quite a bit of effort heh

@OP:

I assume those Rune priests you run have different wargear?

I am not sure if this is directed towards me or not, but it has come to my attention that I need change the two RP's I am running for this reason. I would rather give one a Combi-Melta, and the other a Combi-Plasma. but if this is still not legal, then one of them will get the CoTS "upgrade".

Another question I have is: Can I not give more than one Wolf Guard MoTW in the entire army?? Or just one in each squad?? I did this, and it has also been brought to my attention that I am wrong in doing so. When I reference the codex it seems rather grey to me. Pun intended. The Grey Hunters can take one MoTW model per-ten man squad, why would I not be able to do so with the Wolf Guard?? The wording within the codex is exactly the same for both.

Thanks.

@nurglez: That fist does look good, and is probably quite easy to make. CaintheHunter sent me his Storm Shield bash, and it also looks good, and quite possibly a little easier to do.

The Codex entry refers to pack, therefore I read it as one MoTW per Wolf Guard pack.

As did I. I just wanted another opinion (or two) on the topic. I posted my rough army list over in the Army List forum, and was told that only one MoTW was acceptable within the entire army, hence the confusion.

The trick to getting a wolfwing to work is not to go over the top with the upgrades. 5 tda's with a heavy flamer /chainfist and drop pod is only 220 points, thats 12 power weapon attacks and 3 chainfist attacks on the charge, plus 8 storm bolter shots and a heavy flamer to thin hordes out. Even if you use up all six troop choice slots its only 1595 points leaving you plenty of room to fit in meltas in say a 2000 point game. 3 land speeders with multi meltas is only 180 points and 3x5 man wolf scout packs with a melta is only 255 points for instance. 10 storm bolter shots with logans tank hunter ability can tear up rhinos aswell and thats before you take into account all the chainfists so theres no need really to worry to much about meq.

Cml and storm shields are not worth the points imo and are each roughly the the cost of a wolf guard terminator and you have to ask yourself whats going to be better a cml or storm shield or an extra wol guard?
