khaosthorpe
What I am asking is, for the points, what would be the better choice between the two in a 2000 point game? The Lone Wolf would have: 1. Wolves(x2) 2. Storm Shield 3. Thunder Hammer The Dreadnought would have: 1. Assault Cannon 2. CC Weapon The army that I would be mostly facing isOrk and possibly Imperial Guard. Which is better depends on what you want to get out of them and what the rest of your army looks like. The lone wolf will be tough, but is basically a pure CC unit, one that will take it't time to get into CC. It'll be quite good at taking on MC and vehicles once it get to them though. The dread will provide much better fire support but will be more vulnerable to AT fire and be more difficult to hide. In CC it'll hit harder and faster (I4 vs. I1), but will be more vulnerable to the "one shot kill", especially if taking on walkers and MCs. Plastenarius
I played a game just recently and decided to try out a lone wolf. And although I don't think I'll be taking them regularly it did well in this game. Lone Wolf TDA Chain Fist SS 2x Fen Wolves I was playing a SM army with 5 or 6 dreads, three in pods. So I just placed him behind my armor I knew he'd be dropping to try to take out. I ended up taking out two of the dreads with the lone wolf. Honestly in most lists I think the points are better off spent somewhere else. ChapniK
Did we not debate this several times now. The lone wolf units is very powerful and has great fluff, but he just is not good enough to compare to the other elite choices. Usually out of the 3 elites choices, one is for Wolf guard and the other 2 are either more Wolf guard, dread with or without drop pod or scouts. The main problem that the lone wolf faces is poor movement, He is good is your army is a gunline where you can put him in position to counter-charge the enemy or charge him. What the dread bring in comparison, is great CC staying power against most infantry and some solid fire power, the thing that tips the scales for me. Wolf Lord Cuneglas
I personally like the Lone Wolf. I recently played a game against Tau and Daemons. The LW, TDA wolf claws, w/ 2 wolves took out 3 Broadsides a squad of FW's and was trying to run down another FW squad when time ran out (He did concede a kill point, but was well worth it). Against Daemons, I had the same setup and he was instrumental in taking out a squad of Letters and was working on the Skulltaker when he finally went down (Many of his special rule were worthless against Daemons). Both annihilation missions. For regular missions I think he would have been targeted early. The broadsides would have easily destroyed a Dread, but instead killed 2 wolves, where as the Dread vs the Daemons would have been a slaughter. I think the LW is more versatile, and is just cool to play with. Rokafort Stonewolf
I would never take a LW that costs that much. If you're spending that many points, get the dread. Keep LWs cheap. jmurph
Don't forget that PA Lone Wolves and his Fenrisian wolves can hitch a ride in an empty rhino/rb. Say one that was purchased for some LFs who instead just sit back and rain death. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183572-lone-wolf-vs-dreadnought/#findComment-2177674 Share on other sites
