LPetersson
Armies: Space Wolves vs. Eldar Points: 2000 Mission: Annihilation Deployment: Dawn of War (We forgot the night fighting rules >_<) Date: 01/11/2009 Forces: Space Wolves: Njal Stormcaller & Ragnar Blackmane Arjac Rock Fist, 3 Wolf Guard - TDA, Assault Cannon\Wolf Claw, Heavy Flamer\Wolf Claw, Power Weapon\Combi Melta 10xGrey Hunters - Flamer\Plasma Gun + Wolf Guard with Frostblade 10xGrey Hunters - Flamer\Plasma Gun + Wolf Guard with Frostblade 10xGrey Hunters - Flamer\Melta Gun\Plasma Pistol\Standard + Wolf Guard with Frostblade\Combi Melta 10xGrey Hunters - Flamer\Melta Gun\Plasma Pistol\Standard + Wolf Guard with Frostblade\Combi Melta 6xLongFangs - 5 Missile Launchers + Wolf Guard 6xLongFangs - 5 Missile Launchers + Wolf Guard Eldar Forces: Farseer + 5xWarlocks on bikes 10x Jet Bikers 10x Dire Avengers 6xHarlequins in Wave Serpent 10xStriking Scorpions in Falcon 2xPrism Tanks Initial deployment: I decided to put Njal and two GH squads (One of each type) on the table. Eldar Player Put Dire Avengers, Bikers and Warlock+farseer on the table. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2680/4065706039_f600e1cc15_b.jpg Space Wolves Turn 1: I then brought the rest on. Njal Stormcaller's Lord of Tempests scores a 4 - All enemy units within 24" move as if they were in Difficult Terrain. Long Fangs went on each side (All black undercoat) of the middle. Arjac with 3 WGs in TDA rocks up the middle by running as fast as their stubby little legs will let them. Ragnar and a GH squad (Melta Gun unit) Run up between the Long Fangs and Arjac, Njal Runs a bit further up while the three GH squads on the right and the Long Fangs on the right run to get forwards. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2612/4066458478_6bc9a0bb74_b.jpg Eldar Turn 1: Everything comes on the table. Prism Tanks on the right as well as a falcon and Waveserpent. The transports go flat out And the prism tanks fire a focused beam at my GH squads, but thanks to Russ and the mercyful Emperor, only two dies. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2641/4066459866_b9267a76a1_b.jpg Space Wolves Turn 2: Njal Stormcaller's Lord of Tempests scores a 5 - At the end of Njal's assault phase, all enemy units within 18" must pass a moral test or fall back. Njal Stormcaller heads towards the middle forest While Arja runs for the hill. Ragnar Blackmane sticks to the trees as he is undecided about where to go. Long Fangs fire away at the transports, but fail to hit them. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2518/4066461348_194553fab2_b.jpg Eldar Turn 2: The transports go flat out to reach my deployment zone, and settles behind my Grey Hunters. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3536/4065712091_2006a1c11a_b.jpg The Jet Bikers all head left for an outflanking maneuvre. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2555/4065713933_ea3e4ee8a1_b.jpg Nothing else noteworthy happened... Space Wolves Turn 3: Njal Stormcaller's Lord of Tempests scores a ? (I can't remember and I forgot to make a note)... Njal head towards the trees, Arjac towards the hill, Ragnar towards the right and the GH squads on the right head towards the enemy transports. By a miracle bestowed upon the hoary veterans of the Long Fang squad 'Eagle Eye' the transport with the striking scorpions was destroyed up and the foul xenos were bathed in cleansing fire that killed two of them. Continued fire from the trusted bolt pistols and the holy promethium of my nearby Grey Hunters left only 5 Scorpionms standing. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2656/4066466304_a7ae35dd2f_b.jpg A swift assault later left only the Exarch alive. He was swiftly cut down as he ran from the might of Fenris' finest. during the consolidation move the dispersed to avoid the worst of the prism tanks templates. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2783/4065717069_1f26249fe1_b.jpg 0-2 In the Wolves' favour Eldar Turn 3: This turn spelled trouble for the Sons of Russ. The cowardly Eldar spewed forth their Harlequins which assaulted one GH squad and caused them to bravely fall back to a better position. Meanwhile, a Prism Tank decimated Njal's GH squad leaving just a Grey Hunter, Wolf Guard and Njal Stormcaller. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2708/4065719183_6fbbe3fefa_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="IMG_1119" /></a> The bikers continue their advance towards the Long Fangs by going flat out. The dire Avengers let loose their Bladestorm and kill one terminator. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2477/4066472136_5391a809f7_b.jpg 0-2 In the Wolves' favour Space Wolves Turn 4: Njal Stormcaller's Lord of Tempests scores a ? (I can't remember and I forgot to make a note)... Arjac and co heads towards the Prism Tank, but doesn't get within hammer throwing range. Njal heads into the woods while the far right GH squad heads towards the transport but fail to hit it with their Melta Gun. Ragnar heads towards the hill. Long Fangs squad 'Eagle Eye' on the left fail to kill any of the bikers while the other Long Fangs manage to shake the prism tank. The Grey Hunters near the Harlequins fired the bolt pistold and flamer at the Harlequins. A swift charge laters saw them dead... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2717/4065722945_126d2bfece_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="IMG_1121" /></a> 0-3 In the Wolves' favour Eldar Turn 4: Bikers all open fire on my Long Fangs which leave one member alive who bravely stands his ground. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3498/4065724453_bd38e35c66_b.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3487/4065726519_05797faf22_b.jpg The Prism Tanks swap places and the remaining transport zooms back to the edge. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3502/4066478420_348360c61c_b.jpg 0-3 In the Wolves' favour Space Wolves Turn 5: Njal Stormcaller's Lord of Tempests scores a 6 - A model within 18" range of Njal get D3 S9 hits. Njal heads into the forest. Ragnars squad spreads out behind the forest while Arjac and the Grey Hunters all head towards the Prism Tank. Sadly still outside of range of the hammer... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2454/4066479594_5ca6273af0_b.jpg 0-3 In the Wolves' favour Eldar Turn 5: The Warlocks kill the remaining Long Fang and head towards the other long Fangs. The Jet Bikers + Dire Avengers fire at Ragnars Squad and take a few down. All the tanks move far away... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2566/4065730689_5718b2dd93_b.jpg And with that the game ended. In hindsight, I really could have done with something to counter the Jet bikes, and it's a shame I dithered with Ragnar but moving him from side to side. I never cast any spells with Njal, because with Runes of Warding, I would have had to roll 3D6 for my perils of the warp test and on 12+ I'd have taken a wound and I simply didn't want to take that chance. Very annoying... What won me the game was the crazy luck that allowed me to slaughter the Scorpions and Harlequins separately. that, and my opponent not being as aggressive as he perhaps should've been...
