This post and thread have been edited, pleas look at the later replies for updates.

Hey this is going to my WIP page for my Golden Bolter entries. I am planning to use the Space Wolves codex for rules and model representation. I planned to enter all three categories but as January 'descends' upon us, it looks unlikely.

i would go for a lone wolf for the first one...so you can add a touch of individual spark and make it more interesting.

for the last one i would not do the vindicator unless you are great at freehand, i find that on large models it is harder to depict shadows and the like which decrease the quality of work when compared to something less 'blocky' like a dreadnought

Hope that helps and good luck.

I finally got my wolf orders, and got to work on some models :D ! The first guy I have done is, well, I'm not sure yet. My first idea was a lone wolf, then I thought it would look sweet as a rune priest. My idea was to paint his eyes glowing and whatnot, and have a swirl of snow coming up around from behind him on his left, like some psychic power  . But I'm not too sure about his left arm or the top of his head though. I will edit this in a few minutes to get the pics up, Im waiting to get my password back <_< , and the pics arent that great, my camera is on the fritz.

its an anwfully geneic and boring pose id think...not really much character to him!

you could practice converting, using putties like milliput or magic sculpt as they are sandable you dont have to be perfect at sculpting wet, but can sculpt when dry as well

Alex

i think you are right to be unsure of the axe arm. its not so much the arm as the hand itelf. it was orignially from the terminator sprue if i'm not mistaken and as such is larger than a power armoured hand, it was also designed to fit 'inside' part of the terminator arm so it is longer than it needed to be and had not ribbing around the wrist. i personally think you would have been better off if you had used a power armoured hand and pinned the axe to that instead of keeping it on the terminator hand. also with the size of the weapon and the way he is holding it it looks off, it looks very light, maybe if it was held across his body in a two handed grip it would look better.

for a rune priest, the head doesn' fit. it would be good as a lone wolf but rune priests, i feel, should be older and beardier

if you want some tuts for sculpting wolfy bits then heres some links to ones that i wrote. in it you will find how i did wolf tooth necklaces, wolf tail talismans, runic charms and wolf pelts its a bit muddled because it was an ongoing thread.

heres a cleaner tut for the cloak part

Thank you for the comments, they are duely (spelling?) noted.

Axe arm:I have changed the axe arm, instead of "wielding" it, I made it obvious it is two-handed, and that he is only "carrying" it by using a standard bearer arm, and mounting the axe head right above his hand.

Head: I would like to keep the head because his "locks" flow with cloak and the theme, I also wanted to paint his head like the psychic energy is just bursting from him (open, screaming mouth) .

Although just to throw this in there, in the previous post, when I said "left arm" I meant the models left as in the pistol arm, if you can imagine what I meant about the "psychic snow" or whatever, the arm seemed in the way. I will update tonight with pics as soon as the GS dries.

Here are the pics! The drawing shows what I am trying to get across as him controlling the snow. The others show the new axe arm and what it looks like.

Opinions? :P

Hey, new pics! These show the model with just the axe, and then with two possible left arms, but I really dislike the missile launcher arm. And just for fun, I threw in an iron priest ;) .

So what do you guys think? And any suggestions as to what to have for the left arm would be great.

It might be just me but the rune priest seems to lack a sense of power to me.

I suggest that you ether change hand position closer to the axe head or move to a two handed pose with a holster on the side on a pair of running legs with the psychic power snow flowing off the top of the axe head arcing back.

your iron priest looks fine though. I would describe it as him leaning back to get that head shot and then charging in to finish it with the hammer.

AND get those mold lines! :P

I tried to put more movement into the model, and successfully screwed up every piece I had! Now I cant even redo the way I had it before and hav no way of getting the parts I need for more than a hundred dollars! Shows what I get for messing with a model when its perfectly good! AAAAAAGGGGGHHGHHHHGH!!!! Im furious! ^_^ ;)

So screw it Im going to just clean up the iron priest and thats it!

++EDIT++

Let us not forget this is a family orientated board, so no need to bypass the swear filter.

Alright update! So the first pic is simply what Ive added to the iron priest, the rest are various things Ive done with GS tonight like making a cast for the axe head. The head/hair sculpt is the first thing Ive really done other than filling up joint gaps.

I just love the assault cannon from the wolf guard box, its so sweet :( . Im thinking I will use the head in a terminator suit, as the left and backside of the head aint that great.

Happy Thanksgiving to all ye Americans! I have tested painting grey on a Tank commander, and I have found a method I like. I also tried painting a bare head for the first time, and I am relatively happy with how it came out, sorry I dont have pictures, but I will get some after black friday.

Mwahahahahaha TOTAL THREAD DOMINATION! :P

Really though any feedback would be great.

Ok, first-off, the pictures arent that great, and not much progress.

#1. really need help on the speeder, first off its bare bones and unnassembled, and any ideas as to 'wolfy' bits to add or nifty paint ideas, Im open.

I also Would like any ideas for the base

Im thinking I might take some inspiration from my local geography, and have it flying at brake-neck speeds out of a canyon.

I also threw on some very rough base coats on the iron priest.

PPPPPLLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAAAAAAASSSSSEEEE!!!!!!!! leave a comment.

I hear speeders are hard to put together but that open space is perfect for some free hand.

as for decorations try to keep it simple just few wolf skulls here and there and some small bits too should do.

I believe you remember my land raider with that small plate with a skull and some runes on it on it's front that should also be fine.

the base is easy take some Styrofoam and make it look like a fallen wall or something or bits and then get some dirt then get white or wood glue put it on the base and put the dirt and mix it good then put in whatever your using for stuff in the ground then your good and it shouldn't look bad at all.

if you use a wall and want some plants growing on it just use this just on a smaller scale.

I hear speeders are hard to put together......

---=][= Rant Warning=][=----

Who ever put the measurements into GW's system or whatever for the land speeder, is a complete retard! The top and bottom halves have up to3mm of being off all the way around!!!! I am definitely not entering it into a competition...

Okay so now for an update, and continuing thread dominancy!!!!! (really, I would like your opnions :) )

THE HELMET IS NOT COMPLETELY FINISHED, AT ALL

So I have just done a little work in the Iron Priest's helmet. the right side (remember I mean his) is actually really dark grey, and since his left is in the dark, I cant make it any darker than black. The visibly grey part of his helmet, I am very proud of, as its my first attempt at highlighting grey and it is my best job in any color :D . The black highlighting was also my first attempt at it, but its not as great, but it is subtle.

I know I am not likely to win this competition, let alone get any sort of mention (if you know what I mean). But I'm pushing myself as a novice modeler and painter. I'm also trying new techniques I've read about or come up with myself. Thats why I would value any opinions, because I am very much still learning.

---P.S. What do you guys think I should do with his base?

The black highlighting is pretty good, as the colours are fading into one another really well. If this is your first attempt you are off to a really good start :P.

As for his base, I'm not that great at making scenic bases myself, but you could always go for broken up 'slabs' of slate to make it look like he's in the middle of a warzone.

I look forward to seeing how your Iron Priest comes along. Oh and before I forget, the double headed axe you G/S'd looks fantastic!

Okay quick update. Weather has been horribly cold, and I work in the garage so, I haven't been able to paint because the cold weather gummed up my paint. So I tried to get back into the grove, and start on the metalics on the helmet, and got them all over the place, so I'm gonna have to redo the black. The rest of the photos are just to show the rest of the body, nothing pretty yet, except maybe the sheath which is partway done. Oh I love painting in a rush :whistling: .

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo353/caj007/40k217.jpg

So thats it on the iron priest so far.

But heres a hint at another larger project to come.... After the iron priest is done of course.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo353/caj007/40k211-1.jpg

Mwahahaha fear the evil starfish! :P

The iron priest looks like he's coming along pretty well. I too know how aggravating the cold can be. I can't undercoat anything just now cause it's -3 degrees outside and we've got about 6-7" of snow on the ground :D.

Good luck with the drop pod when you get around to it, both of mine are still half assemble/painted cause they're a bit frustrating to paint once fully built. Never, ever follow GW instructions without thinking through the consequences first :)
