What to replace Stormtroopers with?

+1 for Kaskrin, its what most people use and for good reason. Awesome minis that actually LOOK like they're wearing 4+ save armor. I personally HATE the stormtrooper models. They look like a time warp from 2nd ed and even then there were alot better looking minis than those...

To which stormtrooper models are you referring? The Kasrkin? Or the stormtroopers just before them?

I prefer the older ones for my Inquisition army (Daemon- and Xenohunters right now) as they have the carapace armour while looking significantly different from the Kasrkin which are frequently used as IG stormtroopers. I currently have 4+ squads that I acquired on eBay (at low cost).

How do people make them look Inquisitorial?

Usually painting them crimson and dark grey. Possibly even paint inq symbols where possible.

The Witch- and Daemonhunter Codexes have some good images. Maybe even check the GW website for the respective armies.

I like the old stormies (and as an IG player miss the hellgun, and still say they should be allowed bolters and snipers as options). I was considering using Preatorians or Mordian iron guard at one point, mostly because I love the models and want to use some, I see the stormtroopers as an inquisitors personal army and its my belief that any kind of private army should look smart and wear colours like the armies of bond villians.

Another route you could go down is necromunda figures, there are some that would make good ist depending on the look you want.

Second that motion. Bolters and snipers, Good! (especially snipers).

"Do you expect me to talk?"

"No, Mr Bond. I expect you to die."

Van Saar comes to mind with their spiffy bodygloves. I am using some of them for an Inquisitor's retinue.

I use Kasrkin, but if I had the money I'd totally do Death Korps of Krieg grenadiers. I love the greatcoat/gasmask look, and the grenadiers have extra breastplates and other armor plating on their coats to justify the 4+.

The hard part for DKoK would be getting all the special weapons you'd want. Grenade launchers are easy (I really like the Forgeworld DKoK grenade launchers, they are very old-school; they sort of look like TeamFortress 2 Pyros with Flare Guns, now that I think about it), but I'm not so sure about plasma or meltas. Plus they cost a bundle.

I've been looking at These Guys but I'm unsure of how to make them "Tourny Legal". Ya know?

And before you guys start yelling for details these are from Pig Iron Productions. I just like the way they look. ;)

Sadly, while there are some really great miniatures from other lines, GW sanctioned tournaments often won't allow you to use non-gw models. They are big on WYSIWYG. I could see using bits from other ranges on the main body of a GW model or if you are a GS wizard a bunch of sculptwork with just a few GW bits but not a whole retinue of non-GW.

Here are some links to the FW DKoK Grenadiers:

They include meltas, flamers, and grenade launchers, but the heavy stubber would be less useful and no plasma comes on a grenadier model that I can see.

I Field vets now to do what my old storm troopers did and they do have access to sniper rifles (And you can have 3 in a unit) and you can have a heavy weapon aswell, and you get 10 men instead of 5 for only 15pts extra.

I think IST based on Fanstasy empire minis would be quite cool, use bodies with breast plates and helmets to account for the save and arm them with some guns and paint them in bright colours as you would a normal empire army, could look quite good.

I too like the necromunda line, but with the decline of ebay it is basically near impossible to get a large amount of necromunda stuff anymore. I would guess that it would be at least a two year process of waiting for listings and getting them one or two figures at a time.

I haven't seen a Van Saar listing on ebay or anywhere else in over a year, can they still be ordered as bits from GW?
