Prot
Sorry to ask this.... I should really know this, but I put a pile of my Imperial Armour books away. So does anyone know in which situation we can use the (in)famous Forgeworld Chaos Drop Pod? You don't have to tell me rules/points, I just can't remember which book has the rules. I know it's been a while since I seen them so I'm thinking one of the thinner books (Update Book perhaps?). Do any of you still use them? As my Imperial Fist project is getting uglier and uglier by the day, I am thinking of bailng out and going back to Red Corsairs! lol :) I did finish half a squad, got really inspired and did Huron even (I posted the pics in the Hall of Honour). Basically I'm trying to think of ways to save the loss of money I may experience if I bail out of my Imperial Fists. I'm thinking maybe I could turn the loyalist drop pod into a chaos one, but probably wouldn't find a situation for it anyway.... just curious if the rules are still out there, or if Apoc may have updated them? IronWinds
Rules for the dreadclaw are in IA 6 & 7. The rules in 7 are better, because based on the wording in 7 you can assault out of it. Now that is a dreadclaw. Can't think of situations you can use it, like anything in IA you just need opponents permission. If it is an actual drop pod I would just use the SM rules for it. In an apoc game it would be really hard to argue against chaos using a drop pod. Chaos has drop pods in addition to dreadclaws, dreadclaws are just the more advanced version of a drop pod. In apoc dreadclaws are great. Land one with a CC dread inside next to a baneblade ;) . Or terminators w/ meltas & chainfists. Or bezerkers and assault the enemy from behind. Dreadclaws are great for causing lots of confusion. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183905-chaos-drop-pod/#findComment-2174079 Share on other sites
Prot
Thanks IronWinds. I forgot about the distinction, but you're right in the next Apoc battle I'm loading up a dual claw dread in a drop pod. To heck with it. MuGGzy
Has anyone used the Dreadclaw to any degree of success? It seems like it could be awesome, the fact that it is a re usable transport, or it could be a waste of points. I am very interested in using one but hesitant to invest the time and $$ if it will never get used (like so many other 40k "toys" I have gotten). Either for squads of terminators with lord or thousand sons. They are great for last turn objective grabs too or fixing a deepstrike mishap. Still havent tried using them with havocks/chosen with meltas although I expect it to be rather effective since you cand drop right on the target and not worry much about scatter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183905-chaos-drop-pod/#findComment-2178189 Share on other sites
IronWinds
My dream.... going to happen in next apoc game if I can finish the claws. 5 havoks, 4 meltas, champ-combi melta. Drop right behind warhound titan, under the void shield, and within double penetration range. Attack is code named the Melta Enema. Squad w/ dreadclaw costs roughly 200pts. If you knock off 1 structure point the squad paid for itself <_< . If you kill it... GLORY! Multiples of that + dreadclaw dreadnaughts + dreadclaw terminators(meltas/CFs) + dreadclaw bezerkers + a couple hellblades to provide air support and protect the claws. Focus on high priority targets, super heavies, titans, and the zerkers will just try to cause chaos in the enemy lines. MuGGzy
What about in regular games like in the 1500-2000 range. Dreadclaws worth the investment? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183905-chaos-drop-pod/#findComment-2180128 Share on other sites
