Duke Corwin
Ten skyclaws are actually cheaper than 10 bloodclaws with Rhino (or 10 grey hunters with rhino). Also skyclaws can have MotW. Add an IC, like a Wolf Priest, and you get a strong force that can also deep strike. Plus they don't have to worry about their transport getting destroyed. You can either use a small pack to harrass the enemy or to support your other forces or you can use a big pack to fight on it's own. Given their versatility they could easily replace bloodclaws on the battlefield. The question isn't so much are SCs better than BCs but are SCs better than GHs. You're asking to compare apples and oranges. Skyclaws and Grey Hunters fulfill different roles on the battlefield. Grey Hunters are all-rounders, capable of taking/holding objectives, and are very VERY tactically flexible. Skyclaws are your unit-munchers, and have the movement to get there. For what they add to your army, there's just no comparison. Cheapest and quickest way to get assault units where you want them. DV8 I know that Grey Hunters are better then Sky Claws in most ways, my point was that except for not holding objectives and no Wolf Guard upgrade Sky Claws are as good or better than Blood Claws. In this codex Sky Claws are usually a better choice than Blood Claws (unless you want Lukas). For holding objectives Grey Hunters are usually better than Blood Claws (Grey Hunters have longer ranged weapons). Wolf Lord Cuneglas
Good discussion. The only "problem" with Skyclaws are Greyhunters. They are such an awesome troop choice it's difficult to spend points on other units. I personally love my 10 Man, PF, Melta Gun, MOW, led by a Wolf Priest w/ melta bombs. This allows my unit to autopass tank shock, move around and trash opponents with a very assaulty squad (preferred enemy is ohhh so nice). Someone posted above about how much better they are than regular BC's. That is very true, the only drawback is not being a scoring unit. I'm hoping to start running 2 squads of them, I just need to finish building them...So I say yes they are very worth it, they can take on lots of different roles, DS, awesome counter as reserves or just hiding for the first turn and scooting across the board. Hfran Morkai
And of course in Planetstrike they're so much tastier, deepstrike, use a meltagun on a bastion to crack it open. Also D3 units can be given meltabombs for like 2-3 strategy points if I remember. Question is: Can you assault a unit that had to abandon a bastion because you shot it? Because it's not really a transport but I'd say yes in this case. MaleOpener
Added a wolf priest, to my small sky claw pack, and use them to hunt "shooty" squads. They work pretty well for me. Good to know we have some testing going on! In theory they're pretty nifty but I've not played a game for weeks. Evilbob
I usually take a squad of six or seven with a Wolf Priest to baby sit them and they work out well against armies that <_< back with ranged tanks (IG and chaos Defiliers) or to take out transports and stall enemies, making them turn around to deal with the skyclaws while my GHs move forward and take up positions for good shooting or at objectives. Dewi Sant
Finally got my hands on the Codex just released that the SC pack they a running is illegal. You can't have a Plasma Pistol and Meltagun in the same pack. nurglespuss
Well I used 5 in my first battle, and they did OK against a 10 man tactical squad, mainly byt just scaring them into moving to prevent me charging. If you do get charged rather than get to charge (and fail counter attack roll) then their low WS and Str mean they are fairly vulnerable. I havent tried adding a character, but am tempted for my next game. ahorsecalledwar
Been useing a pack of 5 skyclaws with PF and MOTW and i have to say they have really saved my bacon on more that 1 acount. They have contested objs and they have ruined big hard hitting dreads and killed many hero units. Used well they are worth there weight in gold BUT if im really honest im pretty damn tempted by a swiftclaw pack. But you should well try these boyos out Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183984-sky-claws/page/2/#findComment-2177170 Share on other sites
