Do you lose a weapon when you add a SS to a Veteran?

The topic pretty much says it. Does a storm shield replace a weapon, or can you simply add it? In other words is the following a legal command squad Veteran?

 

Veteran with SS, Power Sword, Bolt Pistol

 

or would it have to be

 

Veteran with SS, Power Sword

Yes, that is legal. As the Command Squad entry says "Any Veteran may take a Storm Shield", you don't have to replace anything.

 

While this means you get to shoot your bolt pistol pre-charge, it doesn't mean you get a bonus attack for an offhand weapon. Recall that the storm shield negates this. =) Resist the temptation to put a plasma pistol on this guy. He's too expensive for it.

Yup it's in addition to the bolt pistol, but is subject to the non-bonus attack for having the shield, no matter how many CCWs the Champion has. In fact, doesn't the shield arm on the Command Squad sprue already have a bolt pistol in its hand, too?

I often put a lightning claw, storm shield and meltagun on a command squad vet. Very expensive and very deadly!

Be careful with this, as the pistol in hand under the shields WYSIWYG represents a Combat Shield and not a Storm Shield. Best to put the pistol in a holster or something, or at least paint that combat shield extra extra fancy and explain clearly to your opponent what it is at the game's outset.
