Copperwood? I live in houston as well and Copperwood is not that far. I have not heard of this mini games day though. What's going on and when is it?

The Space Wolf bust looks awesome. You should totally bring it. And even the sallie looks great.

Cheers

Wow SoG!

I am really liking the grey and yellow. Very nice tones to them. I know you're getting great advice from your Dad, but here are some additional thoughts (in case he's afraid you might show him up  ):

1. It might be the pic, but make sure that your edged highlights on the grey are sharp and distinct. At the scale you are working at, they do need to be prominent.

2. The yellow looks just ace. Very well done.

3. Remember that it's Ok to have prominent shadows around features that stick out (e.g. around the wolf icon on the shoulderpad).

4. I like the fact that the work you've done so far isn't "bright". I think at larger scales, subdued tones lends more realism to the work.

You are on a roll and I'm looking forward to more progress shots.

You can do it, "Go for the gold!"

Cheers,

My thoughts

The weathering or black smudges on the yellow don't look right. May just be the picture.

Add a little blue to the yellow and shade very slightly around the wolf icon. Add a little orange glaze to the rest of the shoulde pad, Just enough to warm it up slightly.

Add white to the yellow and highlight the edges and little near the top of the shoulder pad. Then add pure white to the sharp corners.

In between, the wolf icon, put a thin yellow strip beyween the head and the shoulder. it will make the head look better to the eye, it adds more definition.

Use some thinned down Chaos black to add shading to the grey armor. Build up the colors carefully. Once that is done you can focus on the highlighting. Don't use the badaab black wash, it adds a weird uneven spash of color which will be very stark on a model of this scale. its great for small minis, but on large areas not so much.

Actualy iv turned badab black into a glaze and shaded the top of the mini with it, and it's turned out awesome.

the reason it looks weird is because most black paint is a dark blue, and thus putting yellow over blue you get a greenish tint, putting black over yellow creates a greenish tint

...the other reason is because you havent dont anything else to the shoulder, no shading or inclination as to what or why thered be black smudges...

you are trying to use realism on a cartoony style paint job, so it looks out of place

keep working, dont rush it, theres no point, rushing will only leave you with a half assed piece, that cost you more than the effort you put into it
