Grey Hunter Armour

Brothers,

I come to you needing your help and wisdom and hopefully your creative ideas.

I'm currently putting together my great Company led by the mighty Greyan Ironmane. As i have a dislike for painting my army in one uniform colour i have changed the colour scheme for all of my squads.

For instance - my Bloodclaws are painted Gore Red and Black with Yellow shoulder pads, my Great Wolf will be sporting Bronze Armour and his Wolf Guard will be black with extreme blue hi-lights.

But i am having real problems finding a colour scheme for my Grey Hunters.....

For my grey Hunters i wanted them to be just that - Hunters. So I intend on kitting them out with extra ammo packs and hunting knives, with one or two sporting some type of modified sniper bolter etc. But i dont like the idea of using Space Wolves Grey or Shadow Grey.

I toyed with the idea of Astronomican Grey armour and Fenris Grey tiger stripes but couldnt get the stripes right. So Brothers what are your suggestions? What colours would you use other than the normal round of Greys?

And here's an Ale for you all to get those creative thoughts flowing

Thanks for your help

I am planning to do the same thing with my army when I finally get it all built. I think the hardest thing will be to make sure all the different pack colours will still blend well with each other. I was just intending on using different shades of Grey as their pack schemes. But the HQ choices need to stand out more than the Wolf Guard who in turn need to stand out more then the troop choices.

I was intending to cheat and paint Swift Claws and Sky Claws the same as Blood Claws rather than their own colour scheme.

A camo pattern is not easy to make look right on a small mini. There was a great article in whitedwarf years ago when the last guard codex came out about camo schemes. Main advice was to use contrasting colours so that it does not end up looking like a grey blob. I use camo green for the base coat and dark angel green for details on the armour, like the edges of the shoulder pads and for knees, hands and elbows. Occasionally I put a pattern of slashes of DA green on shoulders and boots as a pseudo tiger stripe. Here they are.

Maybe you could try one of the pale greys and black. Or stick with the red and yellow theme of the bloodclaws.

@ Little Brother - I like the Tiger stripe on the pads, they look good.

I guess I'll have to play arounf and do a few tests to see if i can get the camo colour to work, Maybe Fenris Grey and then a lighter colour to contrast....

I guess i'll have to get painting and see!
