Duke Corwin
I was wondering if anyone is paying attention to the oaths that go with the Sagas. Are you attempting to fulfill them? Does attempting to fulfill them affect your game? Do you consider them before choosing a saga? Do you just ignore them? Anyone have any stories of battles where fulfilling an oath created an interesting situation? Wispy
Yes, absolutely. I was crushed when my opponent threw the last game on turn 3, as I could not "Reap a Great Tally" as a result. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i try to, but sometimes its impossible... such as a game i played a few weeks back, the Guard players had a Command Squad, 2 vet squads...kinda hard to get 10 kills from Warrior-Born when your opponent has more tanks than infantry...the game was 2000 pts. edit: forgot he also had a few heavy weapon squads. Firenze
I have not failed Saga of the bear yet. Not in all the games I played with the new dex. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184221-oaths/#findComment-2177897 Share on other sites
confused_gordy
my own oath is to try and score an annihilation result in every game. 2 games down, 2 annihilations. When I eventually fail I don't know how ill recover. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184221-oaths/#findComment-2177943 Share on other sites
JCarter
No. I pay no attention to GW fluff rules. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184221-oaths/#findComment-2178089 Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
I tried to pay attention. In my first game with the new dex, my WL (Warrior born) made a good start with 4 dead Necron Warriors but a Monolith changed his rampage with a big template. So i can say he did not fail  .... In my second game my WP (also Warrior born) fulfilled his oath but he died in the last turn. Hemjorn Krakenslayer
Absolutely I have a Warrior born wolf lord and it would upset me horribly if at the end of the game I could not justify his warrior born(ness) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184221-oaths/#findComment-2178129 Share on other sites
Thylacine
If it happens, it happens if not it is no great loss. We play tournaments by the rules not by the fluff that some clown at GW added to the codex for the young pups. What irks me is that an imbecile on a local forum was trying to gain support for docking sportsmanship points from SW players if by the end of the game the oaths were not fulfilled. You can loose the model in the first round of shooting or you can be so involved in completing the games mission the oath if forgotten so why take a penality over it? Oaths are fluff, just leave it at that. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184221-oaths/#findComment-2178317 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
i kind of ignore them to tell the truth. in my last game my warrior born lord got 10 kills one turn... and i can honestly say i have no clue if that make the oath. Duke Corwin
I was thinking about friendly games for oaths not tournements. Obviously as oaths are not "rules" trying to dock someone for not fulfilling them in a tournement is just wrong. wulfen101
i was think of coming up with some rules for completing oaths in campaigns. example, renown based campaigns could have you gain extra renown for your command for completion, or possible lose renown or gain less than you would for failing. just a thought. personaly i like the little bit character it adds. Aeric
Space wolves with oaths. If think the idea is lazy, half-assed and ridiculous. So no. Oaths look like they were added as an after thought Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184221-oaths/#findComment-2178466 Share on other sites
Wolfpriest
Personally I try to live up to my oaths. I think they should have added in that any oath that goes unfulfilled gives our opponent an extra Kill Point. That way you have some incentive to fulfill your oaths. I think that making them an honor thing to fulfill them was a little silly and half assed. jimmyjames2112
I think they are great. i play Space Wolves because they are attatched to my Norse Heritage and Vikings would make oaths for the great deeds they boasted on the eve of a battle. So i take them seriously. However... Im a turny player so while i would love my ferenzian wolves to survive and make my Wolfin oath true... at lead 6 they are damn hard to keep alive. Maybe once they have a TWC mounts for sale fore 25ish bucks, but for now... its too hard to do. My friends Ragnar had 18 Kills vs orks the other day. Now thats how you full fill that oath!
