hendybadger
Being new to Daemonhunters i have a couple of questions about ISTs. 1) How to arm the squad and sarg? 2) What squad sizes work well? 3) How should they be transported? 4) What are the main roles of ISTs in a Grey Knight heavy force? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184234-arming-and-moving-dh-stormtroopers/ Share on other sites
Chengar Qordath
Being new to Daemonhunters i have a couple of questions about ISTs.1) How to arm the squad and sarg? 2) What squad sizes work well? 3) How should they be transported? 4) What are the main roles of ISTs in a Grey Knight heavy force? Thanks in advance 1) A lot of people don't bother with giving an IST sargeant any special wargear or even upgrading him to veteran; IST stats make close combat suicide either way, so most people prefer to save their points for better uses. 2) For squad size, most people either go with small five-man mechanized squads (usually tank-hunters) or full ten-man squads if they're in an anti-infantry role. 3) Rhino or Chimera; depends on whether you want a transport that's cheap or one with weapons on it. Use the IA2 update (available here) whenever possible so transport prices won't be ridiculously high compared to newer codices. 4) The most popular role for them seems to be small mechanized IST squads with a pair of meltaguns as tank-hunters since pure GK tend to be lacking in anti-tank weapons. A full-size squad with 2 plasma guns can also be good for anti-MEQ roles, though Grey Knights can usually handle that role on their own. Flamers aren't the best choice for them since Grey Knights have Incinerators and much better close combat stats, while most people consider Grenade Launchers lackluster. hendybadger
So would 2 squads of 8 , 2 meltas in each and both inRhinos work well? silversmith82
5 men in a rhino with 2 meltas. Or put them in an inducted IG chimera if you are buying any guard platoons. That is the only real use for them. Maybe give them plasma for popping transports. morcus
Make it three of 6 each, two in rhinos with meltas, one with basic weapons or Plasmas to stand and shoot with. Small squads with meltas are best kept in their rhinos and firing from them. Red Lost Soldier
I use a 8 man, twin plasma build to sit on home objectives. I either hold it off the board for late claiming, or sit it on the objective and lure the enemy in with them.
