XKhalilX
very simple question. Why does he have an eye patch? Wouldn't a marine get a bionic eye? I love the way it looks, but 40k wise, it just doesn't make sense. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184323-fluff-question/ Share on other sites
Hfran Morkai
Because he didn't want it? And bionics are fairly expensive things, perhaps they didn't have any spares. Levitas
Space Wolves are a pretty superstitious bunch, so maybe he just doesn't trust it. Either that or he's on campaign and the iron priest just got blown up in the land raider with the wolf priest. So he's 'making do'. XKhalilX
ahhhhh Levitas I didnt think of that one. Eye patch as a field dressing :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184323-fluff-question/#findComment-2178771 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
also some marines simply prefer not to have a bionic implant. sometimes it for simple reasons such as looking more fearsome and trying to intimidate the enemy. occassionaly as has been said the dont want them for superstitious reasons. maybe he suffered the injury in some heroic way and wears his scars/patch as a symbol of honour. oh and incase you didnt get the memo, GW decided to really up the ante with the whole space viking thing so thats more than likely the reason ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184323-fluff-question/#findComment-2178782 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
Or one can think from the space viking stand point and see it as Odin.... but that might just be too much of a stretch. XKhalilX
yeah it sounds like a symbol of heroics. Maybe he actually got it prior to being a space marine when he was still a human. Never wanted an implant, recollecting on ancient memories. Or he got it after being a space marine and wears it as a badge of courage and honor and refused to get a bionic. I like that route ^_^ thanks guys. I just GSed some beards on 3 heads, 2 with bionic eyes. One is definitely going to be my Steel Wyverns Chapter Master Iylliath ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184323-fluff-question/#findComment-2178812 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
you could be onto something with the injury happening before he became a marine. in the iron snakes book they have to do some surgey on a guy who lost his eyes before the nerves scarred or else he wouldnt be able to receive the implants. Vash113
Actually bionics aren't perfect, not all injuries can be fixed with bionics. The Marine's body could reject the metal implants, nerves could be incapable of linking with the machinery and so on and so forth. Alternatively the strap is a scar and the eyepatch is in fact bionic- its all in how you paint/model it.
