Yay another wolf lord on thunderwolf mount question!

Howdy everybody,

Just like everyone else, I'm looking at making a wolf lord on a thunder wolf, and just like everyone else I don't know what model to use. The one I am currently considering is The Thing in the Woods (from the Mordheim range). It looks like it would be pretty easy to green stuff some fur over the rest of it and throw a marine on its back.

So, for anyone who has seen the model, would it fit on a dreadnought base? How about a terminator base? Is it about the right size for a marine to ride? I hate to spend $25 on a model when it may or may not be what I need, and so I would appreciate anyone's advice.

Also, for personal reasons, I am thinking of putting the wolf lord in scout armor rather than power armor - a power armored marine riding anything living just doesn't make sense. The difference in the save will just have to be accounted for by the massive wolf he's riding and the natural resiliency on both - I am terrible with green stuff, and so I don't plan on trying to put armor plates on whatever "wolf" I end up using, so would putting him in scout armor be too much of a stretch?

And finally, does anyone have any tips on sculpting a saddle?

Sorry to burden the community with yet another thunder wolf question - I haven't seen one yet that used The Thing in the Woods yet though (pics would be great if they're out there).

Hello.

I am also doing the same conversion. I am using the mount, a cold one rider(?) from the dark elf's warhammer army. I have disected it and divided it around on a longer spruce. I am using "bathrom cement" and green stuff to fill in the blanks. Then I am making fur on him and mounting a SM on top. Haven't decided on wolf claw or frost weapon yet.

As for base I would argue eather a 60mm or a 40mm. Canis uses a 60mm, but it is spesificaly statet that his wolf is as large as a cave troll in his entry. Regular wolfs use 40mm (they take up two slots in transport) so a wolf and a SM should use a 60mm, unles Canis is the expetion.

Remember that they don't have to be to wolfy. Fenris is a death wolrd after all with many weard wolfs on it (like the two headed one that Rus fought.) Just make shure it looks like it cna suport a SM.

60mm base

Red shirt manager (who no longer wear red shirts) said that we are expected to use the canis model as a basis for all thunderwolf cavalry.

so basically, buy out any cheap canis models you, or use a 60mm base.

PS - well done on using the The Thing in the Woods (based on the creature from brotherhood of the wolf - and I won't spoil the plot about the wolf) as it is a citadel miniature so it is also legal to be used in GW tournaments and painting contests :)

Any pics of The Thing in the Woods for use of scale against Canis and using a power armour rider?

Edit:

Answered my own question here... http://www.thehogsofwar.com/2009/11/13th-c...conversion.html

Anyone know about this model? has promise, especially for a Iron Priest Mount http://www.fantization.com/ProductImages/h...ses_painted.jpg
