Zsoulless
The last Time I was here I posted Topic after topic.. Trying to figure out how to do this little trick,or playing with that one.. But Mostly I converted Or painted the odd mini, trying to figure out what kind of space Marine army I wanted to build for myself.. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6331.jpg (My Spacewolf is missing a shoulder pad..) http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_4614.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_4392.jpg I have a Few 40k armies already and Ive wanted to do something special with Spacemarines(Chaos or otherwise).. But I just haven't been able to decide on an Army.. And I still haven't.. So I decided to make one spot for all my little ideas.. ...Well lets sit around and throw them at the wall and see what sticks... Ive been Looking over A lot of Iron-Hand and Iron-Warrior material, and Ive decided to start this all off again with a small Kill Team.. Ill try my Hands at Iron Warriors First http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6334.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6336.jpg Blasted mold lines... Hope you Enjoy what ever comes of this.. And as Always.. Questions, Comments, and Criticisms are more then Welcome!! Zsoulless
Thanks cathar! I was hoping the large cables and Turbine would give a steampunk kinda feel.. Im working out a number of Cyborg bitz to toss in as well.. The hardest part im finding is figuring out a number of mechanical chest designs that push them apart from the average chaos Marine.. Anyhow.. This Guy just hit Prime last Night and ill start working out Paint later on today. cathar the great
Most of the Chaos Marine chest designs are already very mechanical. If you want them over the top, you can always add tubing and stuff. I'm a bit like you with all the ideas for projects. To somehow contain this a bit, I try to unite all the ideas under one banner. For my Chaos Army, every squad has a different color scheme and theme, as my Warband is a conglomerate of many different traitors and renegades. That way, I can try out new things and color schemes. But I try to have at least one or two combining elements. In the case of my Chaos army, most of them have the same shoulderpad colors, the same symbol and have a white helmet. If you have loyalists, you can make a crusade style army with a number of chapters fighting together in one crusade or campaign. Every squad can have their own colors, and you could design some sort of badge or shoulderpad for the crusade ot make them look like one army. Alienerd
Wow small world :) That iron warrior is great, I've seen a similar one in a white dwarfyears back using the chaos vehicle crew back torso part, but your greenstuff on the fan in the middle, that would have driven me nuts so well done Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184394-random-acts-of-zsoulless/#findComment-2180360 Share on other sites
Zsoulless
@Cathar:You mistook me.. Its not so much That I need an army to harness Every odd Idea I have under one Banner... I have Three(used to be four I sold my Tyranids last week) large 40k armies already,8,000+pts Orks, 2,700ish Necrons, 3,000pts Tau.. I Also have Fantasy battle Ogres, and I do the odd commission now and again to slate that craving to do something "new".. Im just trying to find the SpaceMarine army that has That "It" factor for me.. But Mostly, ALot of it is simply playing around and Getting My painting, sculpting, and converting skills up to par with What I want to be able to do with a Marine Army.. Hey Alienerd!! Nice to see familiar face around Here! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184394-random-acts-of-zsoulless/#findComment-2180374 Share on other sites

Ill smooth out a few transitions then start knocking out the next few layers.. Aged gold Trim, Hazard stripes, Worn flesh, Battle Damage, la-dee-da.. AlexCrute
...One page to test them all then paint an army like 'im. Love them all. Looks like your painting style is quality-but-laborious. Don't worry about that. Paint up 500pts of Iron warriors like this bloke and be proud of yourself. Zsoulless
Thanks Midnight Runner! I sat down with this model and a cup of coffee this morning, And started plodding away.. You have a lot of free time on your hands dont you Z?? Why Yes.. Yes I do! I have a fractured Vertebrae and 2 bulging disks.. My day pretty much consists of taking Meds and whining like a little girl... added a GW's 'Ardcoat to my blood Gore, it keeps it looking wet and oily forever.. Its Honestly the Best Use Ive Found for 'Ardcoat.. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6383.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6385.jpg Im still not happy with my Golds... Zsoulless
My Backs been killing me all day... Between that and PT Ive ended up far to medicated to do much of anything let alone paint.. Im just not happy with this mini.. So Im circular filing this Guy I think.. Ive been kidding myself wasting A lot of time trying to fix my sloppy transitions and its just not working.. he just isnt up to par with my other 40k Minis.. On an up note I went out shopping today.. picked up some New Paints, Brushes, Blades, and a box of Marines.. So Heres to another day and a Fresh start.. Zsoulless
Since I seem to have issues with Transitions atm.. Ive Decided to take it a bit easier on myself.. And start with something a little simpler and a tad more forgiving.. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6474.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6476.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6478.jpg Blue just tends to blend really easy... Hes still a PIP but I feel alot better about about the mini as a Whole.. Im planning on playing with some rust techniques and Im a huge fan of Battle Damage... I Dont Know... maybe Im just Crazy.. Tell me What you Think! Any Questions, Comments, Or Criticisms..?!.. Nothing Big A few Scaled Loan clothes and Cloaks.. ect.. ect.. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff70/Zsoulless/IMG_6461.jpg Question is, Are the Scales Good Or should I make them smaller? Zsoulless
Blah... Over 160 Views since my Last post and not one Opinion on the scales or how anything turned out.... seems like a trend around here.. :) Anyhow.. I Talked the the Guy Im doing the scale stamps for.. Sent him a few pics Via Email Then Had his Daughter talk him through how to look at them.. And ultimately had to make the call myself.. I left them the same size but I gave them harder edges.. I figured it would look Better from across the Table top that way.. Also I Had another friend drop by to do the "Im sorry to hear about ya" crap, Because He found out im going in for surgery in a few weeks.. Then he proceeded to tease me about my Crimson fist paint test.. Naming off a number of people in our gaming circle how have Crimson Fist armies already.. He also ended up pulling up a number of Black Templar Pics That look like they came from some sort of comic book and said I should do something like that... I really Love the Art! and may have to give it a go.. And Yes I know Im kinda wishy washy about the whole Process.. Sometimes I feel like Id have better luck nailing jello to a wall then picking a Space Marine Chapter.. But Its all practice right..? If anything else its a way to pass my time while Im stuck at home.. My only hope is that my army will be that much better for it.. I Still like my Crimson Fist Paint test.. If anything, he gets a spot on my mini Shelf.. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184394-random-acts-of-zsoulless/#findComment-2184734 Share on other sites
ephrael
I'll comment on your stuff. I like the scales but agree that a harder edge might look better. As for your painting I'll say that it is amazing. You weathering and battle damage is very well done and I only hope that one day I will achieve such a level of skill and talent. I would recommend that you paint a yellow chapter though as your work on the space wolf's shoulder pad shows that you have a mastery of the color. I would suggest Lamenter's as I have always wanted to paint them and they look striking on the table as well. Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be brilliant and I hope you continue to update us and not get discouraged by a lack of comments. I visit the site every day and rarely post anything and I suspect many others do as well. Zsoulless
Thanks mikhail! Yellow can be such an evil color.. Im not sure if Its just me or Not.. But It tends to be the Least consistent formula out there.. You never really know what your going to get till you pop it open.. But I did save a few Lamenter Links for future reference.. Dan The Deamon
Well, i'm really not the greatest of painters, by any stretch (in fact less than average). What i do notice about the style you paint your marines is that they end up looking very sun bleached. As in the original color has faded and has lost most of it's hue. I looked at the Crimson fist, the Night lord looking scheme, and the iron warrior. They all share this bleaching so to speak. I didn't notice it as strong on the space wolf, did you do anything different for him? So, the higlights look to be in the perfect place, the shading looks great, but i think they may be lacking color depth. Again my opinion as a less than average painter. Zsoulless
Hey Dan The Deamon! It could Be a number of things really.. I tend to use a lot of Muted Tones because they blend easy.. Also the color choices im using may not necessarily be the common color combinations you're used to seeing for each of the chapters.. I know for a fact my Crimson fist color scheme is a bit lighter than whats common.. The Term "bleaching" also Reminds me that my space wolf Pic is an older picture and Im using different bulbs for my light box now and they aren't the best bulbs to be talking photos under, but my nice ones burned out and these were Well Cheap.. And theres a saying that Goes “I Don't Know Art, But I Know What I Like” And it Proves true Here as well.. You don't have to be an accomplished Painter or sculptor to Have a Valid Opinion..
