I love the heretical Grey Knight.

Your Black Templar looks amazing. I recognize that it's a paintjob that can't be summed up as a mere recipe, but I'm curious about your starting point. Did you start with a white or grey basecoat and work down to black, or start from black and work up?

Thanks!

@AdeptusDavidus: I use a wet pallet and mix as I go.. I started with a base coat of flat black, then started off painting with a mix of Chaos black and a touch of codex Grey and Increased the amount of codex grey as I went.. This allowed me to go back and still use straight Chaos black for the chipping and battle damage.. The Extreme Highlights are done with fortress Grey and skull white

As usual everything is looking flash.. The stone base looks great painted, with those marble-y effects rather then just stone (as I imagined..)

As for the grey knight the pole arm looks better and he is awesome. Cant wait to see him painted.

Kinda ran into an Epic fail with my paint.. :D

Looking at the little pic in the Chaos book The Armor looks like copper or gold and the Note states, "Corroded armor;antiquated weaponry" so I went for an NMM gold armor and I figured I would patina it, add rust effects.. ect.. ect..

and while it Photographs ok (most likely just do to the highlights being in the right places), but It looks like a shiney suit of vomit in hand...

I should have know it always happens when I paint a Sergeant, or champion before I do a test mini.. a test mini will always work first try for the most part.... Then I can move on from there....

So Im going to slap together a test mini and shoot for More of an Aged Bronze this time...

So heres the Test mini I cobbled together.. The chest symbol didn't turn out like I would have liked.. Its kinda lop sided..

And heres the start of my Reborn paintjob.. I Figured I would toss up pics before I started adding an aged Patina to the model.. The Highlights on my Bronze dont show up very well in these pics it kinda looks flat compared to the golds..

You've got some very smart conversions going on here, your painting is very good too B)

So, has doing any of these helped you to decide what army you'd finally like to do? I think your Chaos Marines are especially good *hint, hint* ;) :D

Thanks firestorm40k!

Its really helped me Grow.. Ive played with a number of Different Techniques both in sculpting and Painting..

I really love the look of my last two conversions However I lost both to Painting Tests...

My last conversion Died to rust... lots and lots of Rust...

I couldn't get a patina I liked... It was either to subtle or god awful.. So I am now using him to test out rust effects..

Its all just Practice right...

Honestly all I can say now is that I think my Tzeentch Marine is conceptually the best One Ive done so far.. Maybe Ill combine that with my Heretic grey-knights Idea and Ill get somewhere...

May just be my Best bet..

Thanks commander alexander.

Metals Like bronze dont rust they get a Patina instead.. Its a minty or aqua green film that shows up on the metal due to oxidation.. look at ancient bronze and you will see what I was trying for..

Hey zxyogi! Its a number of Bits.. mostly tho its a cut down necron arm on a SM shoulder.. A piece of wire form a backpack ive been cannibalizing for awhile, but I think the nut actually sells piece..

Im hoping to kit bash or scratch build Bionics as I go.. Its one of my favorite parts of the Iron-Hand and Iron-Warrior characters..

Hey zxyogi, thanks for the Compliments.

As far as my back goes It depends on who you ask.. boils down to I used to do construction.. and theres a whole chicken or the egg thing about what all happened first..

Best as I understand I blew out a disk on either side of my vertebrae and continued to work with two herniated discs until I managed to actually crack a Vertebrae..

The surgeons dont want to cut me open because my symptoms dont make sense: as in the way my back is messed up it should be pinching off nerves in my left side but all my problems are happening in my right side for the most part.. and they say it isnt odd to be odd but they want to put me through Nerve block tests before we decide to fuse three Vertebrae in my back..

so thats that..

and Im still limping around..

Ok thanks Zsoulles, I nkew that bronze "rusted" green due to the copper, just didnt know it was called a petina. Have you try'ed using green ink? If you watered it down it might work.

That last miniature looks fantastic.

Have you tried using Vallejo Verdigris? If you aren't aware, it's a medium created with the specific purpose of simulating oxidisation on bronze and copper.

Ok.. Heres go #such and such.... I know I like the whole pseudo Grey-Knight Look...

I already have 2 packs and Polearms primed so I didnt set him up with his own.. and since im doing my Tzeentch Paint job on this one I opted for a scarab jewel VS something more Mechanical as a chest piece.. ((the ugly rough bit between the belt and the loin cloth is glue discoloration))

Hey Zsoulless. First I'd like to say that by NO means am I a better painter or should know better than you in this, because they are all awesome!

Conceptually I agree that your Tzeentch Marine is the best so far (and keep the lava base - it's awesome!)

I also understand how you're looking for criticism too.

While I love it, here are my thoughts:

-The stars are actually a really good idea, but at first I was unsure what they were. maybe with less stars on the shoulder pads (keeping the spacing as even as the body) and a slightly different highlight or a longer tail on a few random stars to give diversity. I had that generic christmas card night scene in mind and while googling one (and somehow sifting through porn on this humble search) I came accross this to Illustrate:

http://indigodaisy.com/wp-images/stars.jpg

-Second thing is the blending of night blue with the purple. If I could do what you do; I would make an army like that! I would also want to show it off instead of placing it on the back of the marine. If the purple started off on the greaves and blended to blue about 1/3 or 1/4 of the way up, that and the stars would have a very distinct connection. I'm not sure if this would work, but following with a vertical blend you could make the area concealed between the shoulder pads and the helm look shadowed in a darker blue.

By catching the blend an first glance by placing it on the front rather than the back a connection will be made by the brain linking stars and the night sky with the sinister reputation of Tzeentch. If anyone said first impressions were important - it's the same for mini painting.

Fair play you have caught the colours from the night sky picture very well indeed! Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Got to say this design would look exceptional on a tank as well :)

Thats Because I started with that Tequila Sunrise Orange color at his foot and blended from there.. I can just as easily start with a color higher up the sky Line and I'll loose a lot of the Pink to purple transitions in the body and end up with more Blues in general.. Having different tones in each model doesn't really bother me to much either since the idea of the sunset armor color spawned from the constantly shifting Tzeentch Daemons Like the Pink Horrors, then evolved into starry sky look you saw in my first Tzeentch Marine.. And honestly I kinda like the Idea of Being able to see the ever-changing sky in there armor..

I don't know why, but this thread is driving me a little insane.

Your conversions are all very clever and neatly executed. Your painting skills are inspiring with some of the best blending I have see on this board.

But something about your minis makes me not care about them very much. It could be that I'm just that numbed by all the INYOURFACE!!-ness of the grim darkness of 40k that such neat conversions don't impress me enough anymore.

It could also be that painting a simple Space Marine (which are, in comparison to other ranges, very dull minis) seems just like a waste of your obvious talent and skill. Are you playing any other miniature games? If so, do you have a blog/thread/page where there are pictures? You can't show them here, but I'd really like to see some other minis that are not Marines if you have some...

Well so much for the instability of my mind. Keep up the good work!

Hmmm..

Well cathar the great.. It could very well be that my conversions are a little Lack luster and my paint jobs a tad lifeless, maybe the Grim Darkness of Future has dulled your senses, or you're bored with simple Marines... Possibly all of the above.. I dont know what to tell ya..

I do play a number of other Armies and paint, build, and sculpt other models on Other major sites.. I also have tons of Artwork up on random sites around the web as well..

I dont however have One convenient Link I can give You..

Hope Im able to WoW you in the future...
