Grantyr Greymantle
I need to rework my Great Company fluff. I worked through the basics of it with a good friend this afternoon and wanted to share it here and see if we're thinking soundly and open it up for suggestions/recommendations/comments/questions. Leman Russ sent a hand picked expeditionary force into the Eye of Terror ahead of the rest of the 13th Company. Obtaining intelligence, Grantyr Greymantle returned to the Fang to report his findings to Russ, only to find that Russ and the rest of their company had disappeared into the Eye. Time had passed while Grantyr's force was in the Eye and the High Lords of Terra had disbanded the Wolf Brothers and declared the Space Wolf geneseed too unstable to use for Successor chapters. The Great Wolf of that time (does anyone know who was Great Wolf when the High Lords disbanded the Wolf Brothers?), unbeknownst to the High Lords, assigned the remaining number of Wolf Brothers to Grantyr's command. The rest of the 13th had long since disappeared and the black stone had already been set into the Grand Annulus in their "honor" and the Wolf Brothers had been "eliminated" or so the High Lords thought - the Great Wolf formed this new Great Company and sent Grantyr and this new Great Company into the Eye of Terror, in search of Russ and the 13th (to research the rumors that their brothers in the Eye might still exist.) From time to time, Grantyr Greymantle, the Lord of the Great Company nicknamed The Redeemed, returns to the Fang to report to the Great Wolf. The existence and mission of The Redeemed known only to the Great Lord (this knowledge of their existence and mission is passed down from Great Wolf to Great Wolf.) -- Does that sound like it fits or do you see any fluff problems in it anywhere? I plan to have some, but maybe 10-15% at most, 13th Company models in my army - but with only 1 piece of Chaos armour each - replaced in necessity but now worn in honor (not replacing it when new supplies became available from the Fang.) These models will represent those 13th Company we've come across that are all that remained of their warbands and have joined The Redeemed. I'm not thinking I'll do anything to model the Wolf Brothers in anyway, having them blending completely into the Great Company. I am thinking though that I might include a few Death Watch models in my army - maybe one pack of Wolf Guard (the one that Pack Leaders are assigned from or something like that) the idea that Logan Grimnar suggested that Grantyr send a pack of his Wolf Guard to the Ordo Xenos when an Inquisitor requested some volunteers (my question about the Death Watch is…when they are with their own chapter, do they wear their black armour and/or shoulder pad and use their DW bolters or do they maybe wear the shoulder pad and use the bolter but paint their armour back to their chapter's colors? or is it not specified anywhere? I'd like to use them as a DW kill team from time to time and I'd like to have them in my SW army for some character, but don't want to break the fluff if I do. Please provide any comments/questions/suggestions you may have, I appreciate the review! Grantyr Greymantle
lots of people have read but no one has replied… …does that mean it's ok, dumb, boring, good as is? Crimson Devil
The Space Wolves Great Wolf would not have any power over the Wolf Brothers, they would have their own Great Wolf. Sending a Great Comany in the EoT seems like throwing away marines, for no benefit. I realize that it happens, but it always struck me as an immpropt to thing to do. Having them pop out every so often to report seems off to me. Might I suggest; Grantyr Greymantle is the leader of a 13th co. warband in the eye and he rescues the survivors of the various Hunts for Leman Russ as he finds them sustaining his own force.. jimmyjames2112
The Wolf Brothers didnt fully disband, they went renegade, a lot of them joined the Red Corsairs before they went full chaos. The Wulfen was very strong in the Wolf Brothers successor chapter. Crimson Devil
Well, we don't know which order it happened in. Did the High Lords disbanded them and the survivors went renegade or did they go renegade and get disbanded. I think it is implied that the first case is what happened. Grantyr Greymantle
some questions then… …how much do we officially know about the Wolf Brothers? How big were they? Were they Astartes structured (but with Priests instead of the "normal" HQs) to appease RG or were they structured after the Space Wolves? Were they like their own Great Company, or bigger or smaller? Were they hunted down or did they just disperse? Would they have had a Great Wolf or a Wolf Lord as leader? Did they really go renegade? If so, did they all go bad? My goal(s) are to get a back story that allows for a few 13th Company models (since I already have them built especially, besides liking their fluff); allows for a few Death Watch shoulder patch and weapons on a handful of models - either in the same pack as each other or dispersed randomly; a reason for them to call themselves "The Redeemed" if only by nickname (something they reportedly did wrong or that lead to disgrace and they have atoned for it, and maybe continue to do so - was thinking that both the Wolf Brothers and the 13th Company could play into that redeemed from disgrace idea…) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184420-new-fluff-for-my-wolves/#findComment-2187792 Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
All official mentioning of the Wolf Brothers are that they had turned toward Chaos. One is mentioned in different short stories about Uriel Ventris and the Iron Warriors and one pack is mentioned in the Apocalypse book. They follow a Chaos Lord of the Red Corsair Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184420-new-fluff-for-my-wolves/#findComment-2187804 Share on other sites
