Gerrie's Golden Bolters work in progress

I've been wanting to start painting some Deatwing terminators for a while now, and the Golden Bolters is the perfect excuse to kick off this project :D

I'm still waiting for some bits to arrive so in the meantime I'm working on a small test model. I've cut up an Assault on Black Reach terminator so I didn't have to paint the entire model. As you might see my painting is inspired by Dezartfox (The Vanus Temple) streaky way of painting. I think this really works! Although there are some areas I'll do different on the final model, for example the back of the armor.

I hope you like it so far :)

Thanks everyone for the comments so far.

The area where I still have a problem of what to do is the back: around the rectangular lid, you know what I mean? I'm using the streak technique for both highlighting and texturing, so that why I have have left some darker streaks near the bottom of the surfaces. But I think on the back it doesn't look that good. Maye the part above the lid shouldn't have the darker streaks... what do you guys think?

The armor looks good. But I fear it will be a bit difficult to make the details really pop with such a busy main color.

Do not fear! I willl use plenty of contrast on the other areas ;)

Very very nice painting and i have a question about right pad symbold, did u sculpted it or u made a mold to be used for the whole squad?

It's a mold. I've written about this on my blog, with some additional pictures: http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2009/...ress-molds.html

I don't plan to use this for the entire squad. Instead I will throw in some Deathwing shoulder pads from the Dark Angels upgrade kit.

Good start. I may have to nick that painting style, though modified, for my Nurgle dreadnought that is starting to ferment and come together... I would say more, though this is not my thread and I do not want to give away what makes my eventual entry unique.

here's the figure with some more color on it

Well basically all the red areas and lenses are finished. At first I wanted to do the Crux Terminatus in a traditional grey but then I changed my mind and re-basecoated it in black green because I think it suits the bone-colored armor better. I'll probably highlight up to medium green.

Ok this test model is now officially finished.

The Deathwing unit itself, has been assembled, fitted with the necessary Dark Angels bits, primed and I just finished basecoating them.

yu have a nice more realistic texture technique on the white, but then go back to bold cartoony colouring on the other elements, with lack of depth shape, contrast and so on

i highly recommend you play with colours more...tone them down, use different tones...otherwise you end up with a figure with details that look more important than the man wearing said details

if you want an idea, search out my nurgle dreadnought thread and tutorial...i think its still up, it should give you an idea as its done in almost an exact style, and its a golden daemon winner to boot!

Still working on my entry ^_^

Here are two pictures of the Terminator squad after the basecoating and shading was done.. I've used bits from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue as well as some bits created with green stuff press molds.

Seeing these, i'm now 100% sure my deathwing aren't going to win me any prizes! Very nice bone looking bone colour and some excelent work on the eyes.

Away from the golden bolter, are you not concerned people will think these are Deathguard?
