Yet another small update , All parts here are finished , I may add something extra to the base however, just the backpack left (yay :D) . Pic is taken with flash on and in low light conditions so is not that great :( the flash picked up a bit of shine in places. I read Pig of Sparta's WIP thread and noticed he is experimenting with photography .. looks like I need to also :o

so I have been working on a few things in my spare time, I didnt really like doing NMM on the ultra vet, so I grabbed an old GKT and did a metallics test:

I really like the outcome, its faster than NMM and I personally like the effect better. I think ill use this on future mini's, for anyone interested in the method, I used this tutorial: CMON Metallics Tutorial

I have also been working on a 'counts as' Logan Grimnar as I fancied a small wolfwing army ( but after seeing the new blood angel models im not sure anymore ^^ ) I wanted to convey his variety of attack possibilities, so he has dual PF's , power axe and stormbolter. So far I have done the face and started on the armour , any critique on the painting is most welcome, Have also included a pic of my last logan, painted over 8 years ago.. : /

Old Logan :)

And lastly a decent pic of the Ultramarine bloke which I never included in this thread

Thanks for looking and for any comments and tips, I really appreciate them!

So I finally got the time to finish up the GK terminator:

I am yet to varnish it, does anyone know if matte varnish (testors dull cote) will improve or ruin metallics?

Have also been testing out a few recipies for red on some spare assault marines, heres my favourite so far.

still some details to do, like weapon casings and chest eagle, Let me know what you think and where i could do better :)

At the moment I have a Lemartes and a Salamanders chaplain in the works, will have some pics when I do some more work on them.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments :D

yeah Logan looks a bit shiny, have been using some of the Citadel washes to shade the hair and recesses of the face and have since highlighted the hair further, will be working on getting him done after finishing up the blood angel test model. I will hit him with some matte varnish when he's finished which should sort out the shine

Touched up the assault marine and finished the details, and added another layer of blood red on the highlights. I quite like it now :) a squad of these will look cool imo.

also heres a start on the Lemartes I currently have on my desk, I got fed up with logan so he is on the sidelines untill im inspired to finish him off.

Any criticism , tips and comments are always welcome.

eyes were :

base black

2:1 black/hawk turquoise on lower right half

1:1 on lower right again

Then up to hawk turquoise and add a bit of white for final highlight

dot of white in upper left.

basically a standard gem technique using hawk turquoise.

Bone:

base white

even layer of commando khaki

shade with scorched brown/khaki mix

highlight by gradually mixing in bleached bone, then white

edit: to help transitions between colours make sure your paints are sufficiently thinned, they should be quite watery and may require a couple of layers to build up and get the desired colour on the surface, especially with the white basecoat.

Hope this helps

Hi sorry for the wait , have been a way for a couple of days.

If I remember right the blue was

1:1 black/UM blue basecoat

highlight through to UM blue, then add a little Fortress grey, then a little white for final highlights

Shade with thin glazes of catachan green at the darkest areas.

Cheers

J
