And made a start on the sanguinor, gold bits are pretty much finished , may go back and add darker shadows to aid contrast when the rest is done, will see how it looks.

hehe thanks for the kind words , im actually getting abit sick of painting gold ;) 25 in the same scheme is way too much for me :S only really dante and half of sanguinor left so yay!

looking forward to concentrating on single minis after the BA's are done.

Cheers

Wow! The Priests look amazing! The painting over all is very clean and smooth and the details (down to the leaves) are well executed and very good.

The gold on the Sanguinor looks almost real, it looks as if it were cast of gold instead of painted! Looks almost like an antique gold. Very nice painting.

Woo, finished up the Sanguinary guard army today, whilst I didn't really push myself technically with the painting (although I did use an airbrush for preliminary highlight/shading for the first time which worked very well, I wouldn't attempt painting an army without one in the future!) I'm really satisfied with the overall cohesive look of the army when pictured together. Anyhow here's some pic's of the characters and an army shot:

Dante:

I'm not sure what my next Space marine project will be, I have some ideas for a small nurgle army or adding some more units to the Blood angels, Im really in need of practice on higher quality paintjobs however and have many part completed things on my desk, all non-power armoured unfortunatley. I may start a WIP thread on CMoN for feedback on these so keep your eyes peeled

Comments, tips ect as always are very welcome

Thanks for looking

sure , the method for sanguinary priests red armour was:

1: undercoat with chaos black spray

2: Airbrush the entire model with your shadow colour (VMC Burnt Cadmium Red)

3: Airbrush the highlight colour (VMA Italian Red) from one direction only, from above and slightly forward of the model in this case. this creates your preliminary highlight and shadow as i mentioned in the previous post.

4:wash entire model with diluted Sepia wash (1:1)

5:wash shadowed areas with diluted devlan mud (1:1)

6:line highlight shadowed areas with VMA Italian red and lightened areas with VMC vermillion be carefull not to go overboard and just highlight the most prominent edges, let the airbrush effect from steps 1+2 do the work for you <_<

after that its just picking out details like faces, weapons, pouches, as normal.

for the golds just use VMC Old Gold for the shadow, and VMA Gold for the highlight.

Its pretty simple, easy, effective and fast if your painting a bunch of models.

if you have any other questions feel free to ask

verpine - the chaos black is straight from a GW spray can , applied over the bare plastic/metal after construction, get a good coat on. I find this much more durable than airbrushing a basecoat or going straight into your models colours as airbrush coats can be extremely thin and fragile without a proper undercoat (but im no expert ;) only airbrushed minis 4 times sofar), and I just dilute with tap water for washes.

jwentzel - Thanks ;)

VAGABOND - wings were :

1- basecoat deneb stone

2- wash with dilute sepia wash (3:1 , water:wash), and place the model in a position where its upside down until the wash dries, as you want it slightly darker towards where the 'feathers' originate from.

3- Highlight the feathers individually with deneb stone, this time you want it lighter to wards the tip so leave a bit at the top of each feather un-painted.

4- final highlight with VMC Pale sand , a thin highlight along the edge of each feather from 1/2 way down to the tip, gradually increace the width of the highlight as you near the tip of the feather.

5- if anything looks particularly messy , go back with deneb stone or sepia wash to tidy up / aid transitions between colours.

hope this helped guys.

Hello again Brothers,

after a long break from painting I decided as a new years resoloution that I should really get around to doing more of it this year. well that's the aim anyway :) Ill see where inspiration takes me.

I think i need to challenge myself more to remain interested in a project. so to begin with I have decided to try out NMM on a larger scale than my Ultramarine at the start of this thread, I'm using the WD tutorial by Darren Latham (Sanguinor) on the Black Templars Helbrecht model. anyways heres where I'm up to:

Still some darker shadows and lighter highlights to add to the leg and some glazes of yellow and purple. As this is a different model to the one in the tutorial I'm interested to see if you guys think that the lights/shadows/refelction looks realistic.. or not ;) ( I know this is a rather cartoony style but hope you know what I mean ^^)

Thanks for looking and any comments.

Hopefully back with more updates within the week

Cheers

J

I finished up the leg with the final highlights/shadows and glazes, still very unsure about where to put the reflection points ect , what do you guys think?

now.. on to the next leg! ^_^

thanks for the replies all.

cheers

J

I think it looks sweet as is without extra reflection points. Im doing a whole army of NMM and its HARD. I think you beat mine hands down, and you should be really proud of what you've done so far. Don't worry about it looking cartoony. I think NMM needs to look a little bit cartoony in order to actually work effectively, and you've hit it on the head!

I'm subscribing to this one.
