kickingbird
Hey guys, ive literally just come over to the light of the Emperor and after reading through the sw codex totally fell in love with the look and character of the army. Two battle forces are on their way and ive got my list all ready so im raring to go. The only problem is im unsure how to go about painting them. My expereince is limited as im used to the sparse dry brushing look of the iron warrors. Anyone know of a simple but nice looking paint scheme? I checked the painting section but it seems to just be pictures :S. Thanks in advance. Prosedragon
There are several color schemes you can go with. As you're coming from chaos you may want to consider doing a 13th company force - this will let you mix in chaos bits and justify it. 13th company are (I believe) painted grey, rather than the grey-blue. You should be able to find a decent gray spray primer - I've got one that almost perfectly matches adeptus battlegray, you could then drybrush Codex gray or an even lighter one over it. I think the typical gray-blue they use is done by base-coating with shadow gray, then dry-brushing space wolves gray over it, and any highlights can also be done with space wolves gray. I wouldn't recommend just painting them space wolves gray...they look too effeminate to be roaring, boozing gods of war. Those are the techniques I would use, however that's quick and dirty - there's a reason my marines aren't posted anywhere on here. If you want real space wolves listen to the older, more skilled folks here. avatar8481
I find drybrushing highlights over a good basecoat followed by a light wash dip works really well as a superfast base color for lots of different armies, you could definitely get a lot of models up from styrene to blocked in color fast and easy using this method, after which it's just a question of how particular you want to get with details etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184728-simple-but-effective-painting/#findComment-2183693 Share on other sites

aggiememnon2002
Howdy! I'm relatively new, and I basecoat using fenris grey, and then go over that with a 1:1 mix of shadow grey and Space Wolves Grey, using the Space Wolves Grey to highlight. Hope that helps! Its not quick (at least for me!), but I think it looks really nice.
