kil78
Hello all. I recently won a wolflord and a unit of wolf guard, honestly I had no intention of playing space wolves, and I actually think the CSM is a more ballanced book from the playing perspective. That said I relly like the space wolves models, and because they are so individualistic they are much more fun to paint. Also i think it would be a shame to not use the models. So anyway here is my (rough) timeline for The Winter wolves, a lost company of space wolves M.36 Orks attack the Himinbjörg system, it is on end of a “ warp current' that links Fennris with the planets in the helican sub-system and so is an important route marker/travel stop. Wolf lord Kirin Jotunson and his Winter Wolves are sent, they clear the planet of Ork infestation and return to the fang. As they arrive at the Fang, A astropathic message is received that the Orks have returned To the Himinbjörg system ( note this is a second Waugh unrelated to the first and has been diverted to this system by the eldar.) Because they had returned at the same time fenris hears about the return of the Ork threat, the Great wolf dresses down Wolf lord Jotunson, because he left the job undone. Jotunson then makes the oath that he would not return to the fang until Ranolf Helm-breaker (great wolf a the time), decided that the job was done or until Russ himself recalled them. The winter wolves then return to the Himinbjörg system. During this time the Great wolf takes his great company on what seems to be a unrelated campaign to defeat what seems to be a minor eldar incursion, o after a few small skirmishes, the Great wolf is ambushed and killed by an eldar sniper. The eldar then fight a set of minor retreating actions and leave the system. Back at Himinbjörg, The winter wolves defeat the orks, and send a message back to the fang, they are informed of the Great wolf's death, and they realize that this means they cannot return home. They decide to stay in the Himinbjörg system, to garrison it and to try to maintain the company until Russ shows up and allows them to return home. Because they cannot return, they are deemed a lost company, and a new great company was raised in their place. so that is the basic idea, it still needs fluffed out, but is it plausable? Hfran Morkai
Yes it is indeed plausible and an interesting way to portray events. For a "Lost company" can be anything from actually lost through to renouncing the oath to the current Great Wolf as yours has done. Another opportunity for them to come back would be once the Great Wolf is replaced. Really nice idea though! dublindawg
I am using the same name for my Lost Company of Space Wolves. They are lead by Vikarr Winterclaw. kil78
to Mikal : the problem is that when Jotenson made the oath he did not say the great wolf, he specifically says only helm-breaker or russ could declair the job done. with Helm-breaker dead, only Russ would be able to recall them to the fang. to dublindaeg: As each wolf lord choses the name of his great company based on folklore and his own haraldry, it think it is only fitting that there have been other "winter wolves" great companies. It would be interesting to see what aspects your guys look to. here are my notes so far on the mythical beast The winter wolf, a symbol of cold relentlessness its jaws can pierce any armor or clothing, it is represented by the cold inexorable progress of a glacier, and when men huddle in their long houses they know that the cold biting wind outside is the howl of the winter wolf and at best it can only be delayed never stopped. It is the devourer, the thing that lurks just outside the tenuous safety of the firelight.
