Wolf Guard Hengist
Ah I see, yes you are correct I should have made the comparison bewtween my unit and a unit of 5+ with all upgrades. Bobman
Mine get pretty much the same as before; Melta gun Plasma pistol WolfGuard w power weapon + melta bombs Take on whatever while staying reasonably cheap. BEL has worked fine for me only missing once out of about 7 times so far. What they've achieved when they get there is a different matter though. Thats more variable in my experience. MadMonk
All you young pups with your fancy toys! My rule for my scouts keep it simple; I run two packs of 5 with melts guns. For me this works out wonderfully since my oppents has two fear two sqauds that pop out from any where to say hello Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184835-wolf-scouts/page/2/#findComment-2196341 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
My problem is trying to fit a unit of scouts into the army itself.. I have 2 dreads I would like to use, and at some point I really should get some wolfguard! and thats it, all the elites used up.... Scouts or a dread? well, from my last two games, I'll take the dreads... Anyone fancy tampting me otherwise (I'm not massively into meltas, doesn't seem to have hit me yet, prefer plasma)... Hfran Morkai
Anyone fancy tempting me otherwise (I'm not massively into meltas, doesn't seem to have hit me yet, prefer plasma)... The one thing I can say is it scares the enemy an awful lot. The idea of a pack emerging from any board edge almost pays for the scouts themselves. However dreads are also tempting... Kjarl Bluetooth
I'm currently experimenting with: 7 scouts, meltagun, MoTW and 2 x PW WGPL with 2 x combi-weapon, MoTW and meltabombs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184835-wolf-scouts/page/2/#findComment-2196411 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
WGPL with 2 x combi-weapon, MoTW and meltabombs Thats pretty funny, so your buying an extra shot of the melta for 5 and using the MotW as your CCW. Kjarl Bluetooth
Thats pretty funny, Funny good or funny bad? The unit is mainly geared up for infantry with 2 x PW and 2 x MoTW but can pop vehicles with the meltagun and combi-melta. As the WGPL isn't armed with any special ccw then he doesn't suffer a downside with MoTW. TiguriusX
Crazy like a fox. I like that load out. Ever played with 1 combi-melta and 1 combi-plasma instead? Schertenleib
Okay thanks. Niiai
I must say some of the cool things with the scouts is the abilaty to pop up anywhere, something that can ruin any persons day. Scouts and or/drop pod means that he can't spread his units around. What is a good combination vs tyranids? Is it always meltagun? As the WGPL isn't armed with any special ccw then he doesn't suffer a downside with MoTW. Well, there is one down-side, which is that MoTW isn't all that great unless you get lucky and get some Rends. Otherwise, it's just a few extra regular CCW attacks. I'd much rather have close combat attacks that always ignore Armor Saves on my attached Wolf Guard Leader, which is why I'd prefer a Thunderhammer or Power Fist, etc. Having one Combi-Melta on him is a fine idea, so he can back up your regular Melta Gun Scout in case he whifs his shot against a key enemy vehicle, however, I doubt you would get as much use out of that second Combi-melta shot as you would with a nice special close combat weapon. Natanael
Last game I had two squads: 5 WS + WG w/ Melta, Meltabombs, PF, Combi-flamer 7 WS +WG w/ Meltabombs, 2x PW, PF, Combi-Melta Great stuff, since the small pack goes for tanks and the other one goes for infantry. Tough thanks to meltabombs and WGs, both can do any job. Great stuff really. Niiai
Do the wolf guard that joins them get the stealth and infiltrate? It seems that independent characters can't join withouth "blowing it", but not other models. am I correct that we can infiltrait WG with powerfists and other things? WG Vrox
am I correct that we can infiltrait WG with powerfists and other things? Yes, as long as the WG has joined a scout pack you gain their abilities as if there are a upgrade character to the squad. Rune Priest Ridcully
I am thinking of using wolf scouts, what do you all think of this set up 6 Scouts 1 power weapon 1 plasma pistol 1 melta gun I was thinking of taking Mark of the Wulfen on the Melta gun guy Wolf gaurd pack leader with Bolt pistol and Frostblade and Melta bombs what do you guys think of this, do you think it will be any good or not? nurglespuss
Bumps the price up of quite a small unit... I would say the plasma pistol is an unnesscary risk, for little gain, and from your load out it looks pretty 'anti armour/heavy stuff' so the power weapon is maybe a bit redundent too... Ragnar Blood Giver
I would say bolters (if the unit is designed to support e.g. a drop pod grey hunter squad), other than BP & CCW. I'm just sad they can't take shotguns :( as just getting a battle force for xmas, I was shocked to see we don't have shot guns and agree nurgle it is sad not have shotguns... :) wounder if they will update this in a faq???
