I present, the Spartan Space Marines!

After 4 days of trying different paint schemes I've settled on a color scheme and technique I like. I present the first two members of the Spartan Space Marines

(The Sergent is worried that the converted flammer isn't going to work properly... and he's ahead of it)

And because I'm sure people are going to want to see better shots of the converted flammer:

The sergeant probably has a right to be worried! The other guy obviously hasn't read the manual for that thing, the first line is "Please don't point the flamethrower at your commanding officer."

Anyways, onwards. The paint looks a bit thick on them. If you thin it out some, it'll take more coats to get good coverage, but it'll be smoother and you'll have a bit more control.

Well, you all should take a second look at the sergeants face. It even looks like he knows the firebat is behind him and about to roast him.

Seriously though, very nice conversion. If I wasn't trying to cut back on projects myself I might have to steal the idea.

I don't have the resources to convert my marines to look like this:

this is the color reference I was working from:

And I donno why it is, but every picture I've taken with this camera somehow makes the paint look really thick. With the exception of the mechrite red on the arms and torsos, which was 4 coats, everything else was in excess of 8-10 coats.

Then you did something wrong. If you painted that sergeant's face with more than one thick coat, it should not look like that. You do realize that the idea behind painting several layers is that you start with a darker color, and apply lighter layers over that and on more promiment parts of the mini to set shadows and highlights...

The white on flamerguy's hair and shoulder pad symbol also looks like one giant blob.

And the resources to build spartan inspired marines aren't that hard to get. You can build your own spears very easily, or just order the bitz to make them (lots of WHFB units have large spears). The shields are also easy to get and green stuff cloaks aren't that hard to build either.
