Jonny the Space Marine
When a Marine seconded to Deathwatch returns to his parent chapter, does he return his armor to it's original color (excepting, of course, the Ordo Xenos shoulder pad) or does he keep it black? Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184913-fluffy-deathwatch-question/ Share on other sites

Justicar Crucius
according to warrior coven, the armor stays black upon the marines induction to deathwatch Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184913-fluffy-deathwatch-question/#findComment-2186823 Share on other sites
silversmith82
I'll have to dig up my old IA or CA books but IIRC its only painted black while they are doing their tour in the Deatwatch and repainted when they go back to the chapter they're from. Brother Tyler
Based on the Uriel Ventris books, the armour is returned to its normal colors upon the brother's return to his parent Chapter. I don't believe that the official background material has ever prescribed one way or the other, but it should be remembered that the only requirement in the rules for indicating a veteran of the Deathwatch was for him to have the Deathwatch shoulder pad - there was no requirement for him to have the Deathwatch colors. In itself, that might constitute the only official reference we have, indicating that armour is returned to its normal Chapter colors once the battle-brother's service within the Deathwatch comes to an end. Jonny the Space Marine
I just finished Warrior Coven and Heroes of the Space Marines....... Conflicting info, I'm afraid. In Warrior Coven, on pages 46 and 47 it states that a Deathwatch marine keeps his armor black in case he gets recalled into Ordo Xenos service. In the last story of Heroes, one of the characters is a former Deathwatch and they don't mention anything about black armor, only an Iron Shoulder Pad.............. I wish I didn't care so much. I need a hobby. Oh....um....yeaaahhhh...... Thanks guys. Ripper.McGuirl
Have you tried reading the old Index Astartes article? I'm not sure if it's in there, but it may be. It may also be in the Inquisitor book where they talk about Brother Artemis. I'll check the IA tonight, as now I'm curious. Also, this is 40k, the galaxy is a big place. One end of the galaxy may have one convention and the other may do it completely differently, and both will think they are right. Jonny the Space Marine
Indeed I did check the Inquisitor rule book and the Chapter Approved. Neither mentioned anything about it. I've decided to go with the Warrior Coven idea. I need a break from painting blue, even if it is only a few guys!! Ripper.McGuirl
Well then, I think you have the answer! Honestly, that's why I put flames and dragons and scales and crap all over my marines...because after 15 years of gaming, and all of those with some kind of marine army or another going, power armor starts to get a little monotonous. All joking aside, I think that it would make sense even that a chapter may even have particularly strong ties with the Ordo Xenos, and as such, there may even be an entire squad pulled just from one chapter.
