Gibious
Next in the Codex The Grey Knight Terminator. IMO the best looking models in 40k, possibly Warhammer alltogether. And described by many as "Worth their weight in gold" Coming each with a 2+ Armour Save and a 5+ Invulnerable. a Str6 powerweapon. And can upgrade For Psycannons, Incinerator and a TH SS combo. Just dont expect these to be cheap. How do you take yours? Please provide the following Layout Name: First come first served to name the layout officially. Squad Size,Equipment and Additional Others: How many you use? Do you give particular Wargear to this Layout? What about holocaust? Also please mention here if you use Delivery LandRaiders Use in game: Description of how you use this squad. Effectivity: Open to all who has used this layout or very similar. Did it work for you? Include a score out of 10 (will average it to top post) Enjoyability: Once again open to all. Did it take the fun out the game for you and/or your opponent? Uncle Mel
Layout Name: basic unit Squad Size,Equipment and Additional Others: Brother captain, 4 termies, of which one has a TH/SS in a land raider crusader Use in game: drive forward, shoot and assault, always use on a flank. Effectivity: expensive but that's to be expected with GKT, strong, high initiative, CC oriëntated. (8) Enjoyability: cool models, fluffy, but in this combo it eats almost 500 points in total. in anything under 1500 points I'ld rather have PAGK and stormtroopers. f.desrochers
Layout Name: The Common Denominator. Squad Size,Equipment and Additional Others: 5 x GKT, one with either a psycannon or incinerator (take your pick) and one with TH/SS. Land Raider (typically Crusader) delivery typically chosen. Use in game: Standard rumble forward, charge and slaughter. The incinerator may help thin the target squad, as could the psycannon (moreso for ranged support). They typically support the charge into the enemy lines to claim objectives or remove enemy counter-move units from influencing my Troops claiming objectives. Efficacy: One can't really say enough about these guys, so I'd give it the 10 it deserves. I've used both with or without the Land Raider transport (typically psycannon chosen). They are without a doubt the best possible terminators out there. Enjoyability: I've had an absolute blast with this unit, so I'd give it the 10 it deserves. ;francois Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184927-pooling-your-knowledge-of-dh-part-5/#findComment-2186108 Share on other sites
silversmith82
I'll go again with my gunline unit: Reach out and touch someone. 5X GKT, psycannon and psycannon/hood/hammerhand on the BC. Maybe a TH/SS thrown in if that's your thing. Attached Brother Captain HQ with psycannon Provides long range fire support and with shrouding will likely not get shot at in return at 36". Effectiveness for these guys would be a 9 for what they do. S6 is enough to glance transports on a 5 and pen on a 6 and with 9 shots at BS5 its likely you'll do something. Great for killing troops and very good at killing MCs due to no invulnerable. Ridiculously effective against demons and the bane of the dual lash list. The hood on the elite BC (not the attached one) is unlimited range Ld10. They're also great as countercharge what with all those power weapons just be aware that the attached BC can be singled out in combat and only has 1 wound. "This Tastes Like Burning" -Ralph Wiggum 8XGKT with incinerator and incinerator/hood/hammerhand on the BC. Mount in a GK LRC, go after the nastiest unit you can find. They'll :cusspwn anything you throw them at. Drive up with the LRC, jump out, unleash hell with the LRC and the 2 templates from the squad AND the stormbolters, then charge in. 17 power weapons will make quick work of anything I can think of. Probably way overkill which leads me to the next unit. Econobox 5xGKT with incinerator and 1 TH/SS Mounted in LRC Not the uber unit listed above but'll still kill most things that need killing. Effectiveness is honestly not much less than the above unit and is used the same way. Inquisitor Fox
Layout Name: The Reserves Squad Size,Equipment and Additional Others: Elites Choice 5 Terminators w/ BC (thunderhammer, psycannon), 1 termie w/ psycannon, 3 basic termies As specified in the unit description, Any terminator (including an Elites Choice BC, but NOT an HQ BC) may swap the nemesis force weapon and stormbolter for a thunder hammer/stormshield for free. I then dropped the storm shield and paid for a psycannon on the BC getting a much better deal than a semi-nerfed DH storm shield (IMO) and saving about another PAGK worth of points on an HQ version of similar equipping. I do not include a psychic hood as I already have one on my HQ WH Inquisitor, so having a second on an Elites slot is redundant. Use in game: I use it as a generic fire support/counter-charge unit for my Witch Hunters army. Once in a blue moon I'll deep strike them or something but that's really mission specific or how I'm feeling that day. The single Thunder Hammer allows for insta-killing characters and the ability to damage vehicles if need be, without a significant loss of total attacks or shooting firepower. Effectivity: 9. The only real downside is the high point cost, but they've been rock solid every time I've needed them. Enjoyability: 10. I've never regretted having them on the table and no one seems to complain overmuch. silversmith82
^I'd give the BC hammerhand and put a TH/SS on a regular GKT. Then you can get +1A on the BC at S8 at initiative. Yeah it doesn't ignore armor saves but against vehicles that doesn't matter. Although I see your point about the TH insta killing characters. Still, if he uses hammerhand against something multi wound and not too great a save and they fail they still go splat. However you can do the same thing with the TH GKT if need be. Inquisitor Fox
I'd give the BC hammerhand and put a TH/SS on a regular GKT.The downside to this is it reduces your overall shooting dakka capacity as a stormshield cannot shoot. By my substitution method you maintain the same relative number of melee attacks, while increasing your shooting attacks. A comparison table follows: BC w/psycannon, 1 w/ psycannon, 1 w/TH&SS, 2 normal 9 attacks @ I4 2 TH @ I1 6 psycannon shots 4 stormbolter shots vs. BC w/TH&psycannon, 1 w/ psycannon, 3 normal 8 attacks @ I4 3 TH @ I1 6 psycannon shots 6 stormbolter shots While it is possible to use Hammerhand to simulate the effects, you pay more points for it (As in this method the Thunderhammer is FREE), as well as giving up the fact it's a power weapon. I believe my substitution method gives the best of all worlds (high strength attacks, low point cost of unit, maintaining outgoing shooting dakka) with little to no significant downside. EDIT: this method would probably change if we had the superior Codex Stormshields, as an overall 3+ invuln would be incredibly useful for wound allocation. Unfortunately that's not the case so I do it this way... that and it made a really slick conversion with the BC Stern model using the Coteaz hammer and a psycannon... jeffersonian000
Layout Name: Two Brothers. Squad Size, Equipment and Additional Others: HQ BC w/ Psycannon + Elite GKT squad (4x GKT w/ 2x Psycannons). Use in game: Walking firebase. Effectivity: 9 Str 6 shots at 36" with Shrouding and 14 Str 6 powerweapon attacks on a charge. Enjoyability: When I'm not running a GM w/ retinue, this is the set-up I prefer for my GKT, lots of dakka, some staying power, Rating: 8 SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184927-pooling-your-knowledge-of-dh-part-5/#findComment-2186951 Share on other sites
