Valhalla
Looking to confirm my thoughts of the consolidated Wolf Guard listing in the holy tome of Russ. With the loss of a Wolf Guard Pack Leader as a separate unit listing my take is that if I want to have them I must take a minimum squad size of three at which point I can split them all off to lead other troops. This is my reading of this but I'm just looking for confirmation so I'm in lie with the rules. Also if I split them off to lead separate units can I still take a Land Raider as a dedicated transport for a squad that contains one of the wolf guard as a pack leader? Brother Amarel
Yes on all counts. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184979-wolf-guard-clarification/#findComment-2186757 Share on other sites
stinkenheim
your correct that you have to purchase at least 3 wolf guard but all of the wolf guard can be split up to lead packs thus leaving you with no wolf guard squad during the game (e.g you buy 4 Wg and attach all of them to different packs) as for the land raider, it can't change to become dedicated transport of a grey hunter squad for instance just because there is a pack leader in the unit. you can take it as a transport for the wolf guard but only the wolf guard pack (the elite choice) can be deployed in it at the start of the battle. any other squad can enter it and use it on turn one they just can't be deployed inside at the start Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/184979-wolf-guard-clarification/#findComment-2186819 Share on other sites

LPetersson
as for the land raider, it can't change to become dedicated transport of a grey hunter squad for instance just because there is a pack leader in the unit. you can take it as a transport for the wolf guard but only the wolf guard pack (the elite choice) can be deployed in it at the start of the battle. any other squad can enter it and use it on turn one they just can't be deployed inside at the start But the LR is assigned to the Wolf Guard who brings his mates fom the GH squad so they can ride over to the SoBs and pick them up... I don't see the problem. This is to the best of my knowledge, the only example from 40k where a 'normal' unit which can pick a dedicated transport is split up and assigned to other squads. Unless there is a precedent for this, I for one, will do this whan and if I feel like it, and if my opponent doesn't like it, then I'll point to the entry for my Wolf Guard which sas he can pick the LR and then ask him where it says I can't do what I'm doing... Having said that, yes, this does need to be FAQed... Marek Grimfang
It's an F'd up scenario and can be argued on both sides. Friendly games get your buddy's permission, but Im assuming this will need to be FAQ'd. Schertenleib
Just my two cents... I understand it that the Wolfguard Unit can take the Land Raider as a dedicated transport. Once the WGL's are divided up and set off to their packs there is no longer a Wolfguard Unit. AdeptusDavidus
My take on it is that once a Wolf Guard is assigned to a pack, he doesn't count as a Wolf Guard unit any longer, he is considered part of that pack. Since this is done after the army is assembled, this means he doesn't count as, say, a Grey Hunter, for the purposes of, for instance, the extra special weapon that they get if their squad numbers ten models. Since that Wolf Guard is no longer part of a Wolf Guard Pack, he cannot take the Land Raider dedicated transport with him for his Grey Hunter buddies to count as their dedicated transport. SpaceWolf13C
it tells you in subcaption on wolf guard splitting to be pack leaders that they are part of the squad they join. therefore they follow the rules for the unit they have joined. you can buy a LR for them but if there is no wolf guard pack then noone starts in it. they don't stay part of the wolf guard pack after joining a unit. if they did Logan Grimnar would be the stuff. just have wolf guard join every possible unit they can and woolah! everything you have is now a troop choice.
