nurglespuss
Update: Hi all, just a quick photo update, I had 20mins earlier so slapped some paint on the guys  Will finish them once I've set up a 'painting clock' for myself! Please let me know what you think! http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs076.snc3/14340_340128370322_633810322_9573946_7129900_n.jpg ------------------------------------ http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs076.snc3/14340_332992030322_633810322_9490468_1420655_n.jpg Hi all! Well, I had some Aurora Chapter marines kicking about that were never going to get used, so i decided to recycle them into another unit of longfangs, to round out my force to 1500pts, After converting them the old heavy weapons just looked 'too' big on todays, seemingly, skinny marines... So I decided adding furcloaks would balance out the look, I'm particularly pleased with the lascannon guy, as this took about half an hour to do (not including 1st stage GS drying time.. enjoy! and please comment! hope you find it useful! Stage 1 (ish) ok, the phots of the earlies bit came out even worse than this one! but, as you can probably tell, its just green stuff applied to paper, smoothed flat, and a cloak shape carefully cut out with modelling knife. Then applied to the model, using just a little superglue under the top arms of the cloak to keep it in place while you adjust the rest, then leave to dry: http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_332992000322_633810322_9490464_1085183_n.jpgStage 2 apply green stuff to cover the whole of the cloak, and add an extra strip to the shoulder piece:http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_332992005322_633810322_9490465_3649984_n.jpgStage 3 using a hooked modelling tool, cut and flip little bits of greenstuff from the cloak (starting at the bottom, and work your way up:http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_332992010322_633810322_9490466_903257_n.jpg Now your thinking, eek! how do I affix the back pack?! well, that depends, if you want to remove it to paint seperately (e.g. proper dev backpack) just press it into the greenstuff, and stand it against something to dry, itll just 'pop' off once its dry (use somethign to lube it if paranoid). or, if the marines are in an appropriate position, ad a drop of sperglue to the backpack, press, hold a sec, done. http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs056.snc3/14340_332992025322_633810322_9490467_3368178_n.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185053-wip-longfangs-updated-please-comment/ Share on other sites
Jonny Wolf
Nice tutorial brother. I also recommend using a needle/pin for really fine fur work. As at tip to others: keep what ever tool your using moist with water to avoid sticking to your green stuff. nurglespuss
Hmmm not tried it with running figure, principle should be the same though, just a slightly thicker layer of greenstuff on the paper, for more stable sculpting surface when dry, also probably let it cure for 30 mins, after cutting out the cloak, to let it stiffen a little :D I used this method ages ago, but kind of in reverse for some empire models: http://coolminiornot.com/pics/pics11/img460c486ef1b60.jpg http://coolminiornot.com/pics/pics11/img460a440927110.jpg So its quite simple, and easy ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185053-wip-longfangs-updated-please-comment/#findComment-2187900 Share on other sites

Night Runner
Did you do any modeling on the legs as well? They're green, is that paint or green stuff? If its green stuff then please tell me how you got such a smooth finish? Some kind of thinner? nurglespuss
LOL no they were auraura (tired sp?) chapter marines :D However, I have sculpted legs previously (sorry no pics) by using a modified medium size rubber tip sculpting tool... (Used a cork borer to remove a 'hemi-tube' from the slant sided tool) this provides a brilliant 'leg smoother'. hope that helps!
