Few Questsions

Okay, putting togeather an army and want to add a Rune Priest, becouse ive never used one before. Now first am i that a Rune Priest dosnt get an Invul save unless in Term armor, besides Storm Caller?

So my questions really are;

Storm Caller, does the save apply in melee? Im thinking it dosnt.

Murderous Hurricane, this ablity says, "... next turn that unit treats all terrain, even clear terrain, as both difficult and dangerous." Then i see in the Rule book under assulting through cover, page 36. "... if an assulting unit had to take a difficult or dangerous terrain test during their assault move, all of its models have their initative value lowered to 1 when attacking, retuardless of other initiative modifiers."

Soo.. putting that together, a unit hit with this spell will have initiative 1 becouse they make a test, unless they have assault grenades?

Arjac Rockfist, can he be put out as a pack leader like other wolf guard? The group i have in mind is a squad of Grey Hunters with Wolf Standard for rerolling 1's with Ragnar Blackmane for +d3 attacks + Furious Charge. If so that gives Arjac, on the charge, a possable 7 attacks, 3 base +1 for two weapons, +d3 for Ragnar's charge. Hitting on a 3+ due to the Wolf Tooth Necklace, rerolling 1's due to the Wolf Standard. As well as his base str 5 going to 10 with thunder hammer, so he wounds on a 2+ likly.. again rerolling 1's. Everything sound correct there?

If so thats turly disgusting, i plan to put it all into a Redeemer and hope the 850 something points dosnt get smoked!

1) Stormcaller is a cover save... so no.

2) Yes. Sucks to be in difficult terrain eh?

3) Yes, Arjac is no different than any other Wolf Gaurd when it comes to this.

4) Bloodclaws allow you a sheer volume of attacks that no other squad in our forces can match. They also provide alot of ablative wounds for a Character and so are good as bodygaurds/students for priests and wolf lords who enjoy taking crusaders. They are also good at covering ground.... ever seen a BC squad daisy-chained so as to hold three objectives at once? Its quite impressive let me tell you. And actually, they are better than GHs in combat against many things.... GHs get 10 Bolt Pistols and 30 attacks for 150pts, while BCs get 10 BPs and 40 attacks for your 150pts. Its creditable, if not amazing.

Your Grey Hunters have a bolter as well, though, so they can shoot bolters, if need be, and still have +1 for two weapons in melee. They have higher WS and BS.. and rerolling 1's for one assault phase. I just feel that the appeal of Claws is not there anymore. They used to be cheeper then Grey Hunters, and have cheeper special weapons. Now their all the same price, and weapons are all the same price so what your really paying for is -1 WS/BS for +1 attack on the charge.

Now i havnt played in awhile, so its not tested, but 9 Grey Hunters with one special weapon, motw, WG with special weapon and the Standard to alow rerolling of 1's for one important assault all at WS 4 sounds better then a few more attacks at WS 3. The bonus i can see is havint a power fist that gets +2 attacks on the charge, letting you do 3 power fist attacks sence apperently they dont get the bonus for two close combat weapons from anything but another fist anymore. Also Lukas would be a total hoot to have..

But wouldnt having grey hunters as the extra wounds for your hero, while giving the hero the Standard ablity, be better then a group of Blood Claws? All for the same price.

I suppose my choice is also effected by my dislike for the Crusader over the Redeemer.. AP 3 flamers just sounds amazing to me ^_^

I just feel that as far as sustained combat goes, Grey Hunters will prefourm better, though if your fighting something weak that the extra 10 attacks will really make the difference against, like.. weak nids or guard or something, it might be better.

P.S. Thanks for the other answers, sorry if i sound overly aggressive.. just tring to see the light on the new Blood Claws!

Ive never been a fan of BCs, so Im not really the best equiped to argue their case- I wasnt the biggest fan of them in the last codex to be honest.

That being said... larger squad size means more wounds. More wounds means more damage can be taken before they lose their effectiveness. As long as you give them a leash they get the bonus attack, as stated....

Alot of it comes down to playstyle. Some people prefer the out and out agression of BCs. Others like the veritable Horde of BCs you can field due to their large unit sizes. I myself have one large unit that is reserved for use with a LRC.

Those extra 10 attacks saved by butt against Wraithgaurd the other day, in large part because of the Wolf Priest they were with- those extra 10 attacks look alot more attractive when you get to reroll every single one of them every turn your in assault.

Oo.. thats not bad, i forgot about the Wolf Priest Prefred Enemy thing.. and after looking at the to hit charts.. 3 WS dosnt really hurt you tell your fighting something with 8 WS.. so its really not a big deal if their 3/4 as far as offensive, defsive their going to get hit more.. Hmm.. maybe a group of Claws wont be bad, for flavor at least.. Having a hell of a time making an army list.. i want Ragnar, couse he is sick.. Arjak.. whom is also sick, and a Redeemer.. couse AP 3 flamers make me cry happy tears. Issue is the Grey Hunter squad i have with thouse 3 units is like 850 points.. thats alot of eggs in one baskit.

I was a fan of Bloodclaws but now i don't find a need anymore. Greyhunters have more gear options available and sometimes its even free.

Also you want to field Ragnar wich makes the Berserk Charge of Blood claws useless (if you plan on running them with Ragnar).

Run Ragnar and BCs in the Redeemer, run Arjac and 14 BCs in a Crusader, throw down some LFs in a Razorback, and another rhino squad of GHs with Meltaguns... and maybe a pair of MM landspeeders. That should put you around 1750pts, if not throw in another GH squad.

Grey Hunters can't fire the bolters and assault.

I use BCs all the time. Technically they're probably not as good as GH but the big pack size is cool. Fear factor can also play a part as most people **** themselves when they see them pile out of an LRC. Psychological warfare! This can take attention off other stuff. I only use BC to bash stuff so unhindered GH is good for position/objectives.

Bobman out

Yeah,

Blood claws were too hard in the last codex (two power weapons or fists), plus the wargear available for characters just made them nasty.

In this codex, blood clwas are far, far more balanced, but definately need to be a big unit, I've been using small units so far (because I'm not sure about blood claws over grey hunters) and they haven't been successful on the charge (loads of attacks, but, so far killing one or 2 enemy).

I've got a little something prepared for your Blood Claw questions, my guide to the whelps:

The point of using them is fun, they were too nasty and so got toned down and people only see the nerf as opposed to another good unit.

Although I'm more of a Skyclaw and Swiftclaw man as opposed to Blood Claws, they need to be fast!
