Black Templar army project WIP

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

A friend of mine has been bitten by the 40K bug, and decided on a Black Templars army. I have volunteered to assemble and paint some of this army, as well as teaching him the modeling/painting aspect of out hobby.

I have personally wanted to do a Black Templars army for some time, but other things have gotten in the way and it never happened. This makes me double happy that my friend has chosen this army!

Not much progress has been made so far (I have a newborn at home, so finding hobby time is a bit tough) but I will share all the progress as it unfolds.

First up - Dreadnoughts

These are mild conversions of the AoBR dread and the normal plastic dread. Ordered, but not yet arrived, is a Forgeworld Venerable Dreadnought. Once it arrives I will be able to determine what magnetization scheme I will use to make all the weapons interchangeable, and then start painting. The other arms (Assault cannon, DCCW are assembled ad Templarised, but not pictured)

This is a small start to a big project, stay tuned!

Come on we all know the Templars are on the verge of being excommunicate and near driven into the eye of terror to join us.

Breaking that 1k limit rule and all several times over. (6 times)

They be a good legion to have at our side when their time comes. I think they might be malal driven having black and white as their colors and somewhat selfless in their cause.

Now that this is in the proper forums...

I like the Dreadnought so far. Just from a personal standpoint, I'd probably put a few more bits on him. That's just me though, I absolutely love sticking bits on vehicles and Dreadnoughts. There's a method to letting your opponent's know that you're black Templars, and then there's a method letting the entire SECTOR that you're Black Templars.

ha, rumors i can assure you. we have mo more then 1000 -_-

Anyways, dreads look sick. That forgeworld ven is smexy, i wants it. They are going to look great once painted. I had alot of fun painting my last dread from a couple years ago, i really should get another

AOBR? please explain, since im looking into getting another dread, and covering this one in bits

AoBR = Assault on Black Reach

The dread with the Lascannon and Missile launcher is the 'normal' plastic dreadnaught, it also comes with a DCCW (dreadnaught close combat weapon) and an Assault Cannon. (Not photographed)

The AoBR model is shown with the Multi-melta and DCCW attached.

Although the arms are all the same size, the sockets of the arms are not the same between the two models. I also suspect that the Forgeworld model will have another socket size. Therefore I am waiting for the FW dread to show up before I magnetize anything, because I would like all the arms from all the models interchangeable.

Gentlemen, thanks for all the comments so far!

Slow, but steady progress -

AoBR Sarge and Shotgun Neophytes (I will get the painting about 1/2 complete before attaching the arms. The chest eagles are impossible to paint well when covered by the guns!

The other Dreadnaught arms.

Certain items (Backpacks and heads, specifically) I like to keep off until later in the painting process.

Nice work, I really like the choice of bits. I'm not usually a fan of robed templars, but it looks good on a chaplain. Really good paint job on the robe too.

Good selection for your marshal, the sword brethren models are very nice!

Some more Progress - All photos WIP

Termie Chaplain. Mostly done, need to shine up the gold, clean the black a bit, complete the basing, finish the seals, etc... This is a wonderful model!

I am going to go for the "Really Dark Grey Templars" paintjob. It's way less headache. More photos on this process to come

WIP Test Neophyte. Coming along nicely! Hand-drawing the crosses is not fun. However, the decals don't fit, so I guess I will practice.

Dreadnaught update -

I mentioned that I was wating for the FW Dread to arrive to see how I need to magnatize the arms. Now that It's here and the 3 dreads have 3 different arm-hole sizes, I have come up with a plan... Watch this thread for WIP photos and tutorial!

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa276/aeroplane_album/DSCF2826.jpg

Magnetizing a Dread is really easy! Glue a ferrous steel disc or washer to the chassis where the arms connect...

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa276/aeroplane_album/DSCF2827.jpg

Secure a strong magnet to the arm...

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa276/aeroplane_album/DSCF2828.jpg

And there you have it! Easy! This is a Flamestorm Cannon conversion, for friendly games

The same model with AssCannon and Missile Launcher

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa276/aeroplane_album/DSCF2832.jpg

All the arms. The FW Multi Melta and DCCW still need Templar Bits. As well as the Flamestorm...

19/507

are black templars allowed to use the flamestorm cannon?

Officially? No.

I am a beer and pretzels player, so that kind of rule means little to me. If you model it and it's not totally ridiculous, go for it!

I thought that the massive flamery thingy looked really cool, and the bit from the sprue was going to be unused anyway... the rest is history.

As for tournaments and the like, obviously it will not be used. Hence the magnets.

22/565

yes its quite delicious. I cant wait to see if in a future codex update we gain access to flamestorm cannons including land raiders :D because with my style of play, it would be soo delicious. (I will probably just buy another land raider crusader so i have a second one, and magnetize it with a purchased flamestorm srue :P

Here is a bunch of progress, all are still WIP, but some are very close to finished. In general, everything needs some attention, mainly highlighting.

The next batch of guys. 10 or so Initiates, Marshall, Emperor's Champion, a couple of rhino gunners, objective marker.
