Ceasarian
Good day, I've been a fan of the B&C ever since I happened by this site a couple of years ago when I got back into the Warhammer 40k hobby. When I came back I decided to play Daemon Hunters/ Grey Knights simply because I had a few knights lying around the house still/ I did not want to buy a new codex initially (in hindsight...) ;) I was in the hobby initially back in 3rd edition for about a year, and then came back to about two years ago. However, there are not many players around at the college that I currently attend, so alot of the time I would of spend playing, has been spent painting my Grey Knights- including my most recent project the GK LRC. I was originally not going to enter the GB painting contest (this will be my first painting contest :D ), but a friend of mine convinced me to give it a go, so I figured I would post a WIP thread to try to get me to actually get this project done on time- a little burnt out from thesis papers/ archaeology projects/ being sick (darn you nurgle). Any pointers if any that I could get from the community would be greatly appreciated. The basic concept: The GK fluff states that GK LR's are rare, and GK LRC are even rarer. So I figured that I would try to show that the tank was rare by simply making it seem ornate by painting free hand/ doing some minimal conversion (only my second try at the greenstuff, and my second conversion)-and there's no way I can afford Forge World- so more of the freehand than anything. I also had to make it fit in with the other two land raiders, and the remainder of my GK army (currently at 1500pts). My two currently "nearly" finished Land Raiders http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0007-5.jpg I want to keep the tank looking very much like Grey Knight vehicle, so I'm trying to strike a balance between too much freehand, and not enough...something that is actually getting rather difficult to figure out properly. I've been painting and assembling the tank piece by piece- painting it a rough cought/ first draft if you will of what I want the tank to look like, then adding a substaintial amount of freehand work to see how it looks- the freehand will then be reworked/ fixed at a later date when the main assembly has been completed. The Finished interior of the LRC- http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0005-5.jpg The WIP front of the LRC- http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0009-2.jpg The WIP sides of the LRC- http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0010-1.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0008-3.jpg The Back of the LRC- http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0011-1.jpg The next step for the tank of course it add the treads, and then the roof/ side panels/ grenade panels to the front. I'll then be going over the main body of the tank (which will be painted all simularly to how its' shown above) and attempt to further detail/ fix some of the free hand mistakes/ I'm proabably going to cover over the skull on the back of the tank, as well as shade/ highlight/ weather this section appropiatly- before moving on to the weapon mounts. Again any comments/ suggestions are always welcome- still sort of a nub at this, and this is my first shot at a painting competition so I'm sorta nervous about this attempt lol Thank you for your time, -Cease Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/ Share on other sites
FlamingDeth
That is some brilliant freehand on the sides there. Well done, and simple enough to avoid overwhelming the rest of the model. Ceasarian
Thank you for your feeback thus far, I'm pretty nervous about trying at a paiting competition, so your words of encouragement mean alot to me. This past evening, after looking at the tank and attempting to figure out where to go next, I attempted to paint the roof of the tank, a draft one with the free hand. I'm not totally satisfied with the sword, and I'll be redoing some parts of it/ extending the size of the seal surrounding it. However one thing I will keep is the center of the sword which has the reading "Our Will shall be our Weapons" - I figured it would be appropiate. The word "Force" I'm really against, and I'm thinking of getting rid of it, but I'm at a loss of what to put there lol... So I then worked on one section at a time, I figured I would get this side all done, and then get the middle, and then other side of the tank. Get it done in sections lol....LR's are not a small model lol, so they take a bit of time to get work done on em. Basically I've redone a few things like the skull on the hammer, added some more color to the metal, reds, and white, added some weathing (My first attempt at this), and on the front of the tank, I've added light effects (Again another first for me lol!) I'm a little iffy on these two parts atm however, and I'm really looking foward to getting your opinions on the matter. The very much a WIP front of the Land Raider: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0003-2-1.jpg The WIP Top of the Raider: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0004-2-1.jpg A close up of the sword on the raider's top: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0005-2-1.jpg The still a WIP side of the raider (it's nearly done however): http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0001-2-2.jpg Close up of the free hand on the door (also still a WIP-I may try to define the skulls a bit better later on): http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0002-2-2.jpg That's about it for now, I'm heading back home for the week for Tanksgiving :P and unfortunatly I have an archaeology project, and a history paper to wrap up, so I won't be able to update with more pictures until after the break- or even get a chance to work on da tank (in the box it goes for a few days lol). Again, all comments and suggestions are always appreciated and welcome. -Cease Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/#findComment-2194469 Share on other sites
Ceasarian
Good day, I was rather successful in somehow managing to find some form of free time between all of the recent papers and projects (mwhahaha), and I decided that it was LAND RAIDER TIME! ;) So my aim was to get this beast done in sections- the two sides, and the middle is how I figured to break it up. For the side that has some of the pics above, I attempted a little bit more with the weathering effects, as well as fix the Daemon's head a little. I also better defined the skull pile so it no longer looked as one of my friends put "an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top"- jerk ruins everything, yea I said it. B) ANYWHOO for the top of the tank I fixed the sword free hand, and extended the cloth on the sides of the sword to make it look a little looser, and on the back of the tank I've better defined the laurals around the GK symbol, and added a sheild with the GK colors, instead of the skull and heavy support symbol. The biggest issues atm for me is some of the armor has to be painted a bit more to make it seem more in line, or go with the rest of the model. I have a few other things to tweak with the side shown before, including adding some more white to the back marking. I also have to fix the rear sheild free hand a little as well, it is as defined as I would of wanted. I'm also VERY shaky about the weathering (chipping), and the lighting effects I'm trying on this model, as well it's the first time I've ever attempted something like this...only been painting for about a year and a half since I got back into the hobby (and the stuff I did as little kid years ago...will forever linger the shoe box of shame). Alas it is getting there...slowly...hopefully before Jan. 31st for the competition....but we'll see :P Enough with my blabbering, the pictures: Side: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0003-4-2.jpg Front: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0004-4-1.jpg Top: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0005-4-1.jpg Back: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0006-3-1.jpg As always thank you all for your time, and any advice/ comments are welcomed. I hope to get the other side before the winter break, but unfortunatly all of my work has to come first....accursed senior thesis papers...and other assorted mega assingments :) -Cease Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/#findComment-2207132 Share on other sites

Shortsonfire79
Very awesome tanks. The freehand is pretty amazing, I like it all, except theres one thing that slightly bothers me, the blue sword on one of the LR is almost lacking a crossguard. But the side banners are amazing. And thanks Sword Brethren, for putting me on that list =-D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/#findComment-2207425 Share on other sites
Tristan the Twisted
Very nice looking freehand. But the red and the white on the sides just overwhelm me- that looks really good! Keep up the brilliant work. Cheers, Tristan. Ceasarian
Good day, I wanted to give a quick update with my Grey Knight Land Raider Crusader Project, I currently have the hull of the tank completed- of course minor tweaks will be needed here and there, but we'll see. I am still very shaky on the weathering, and lighting effects on the tank (as this is my first attempt at such madness lol ;) ) Thank you for your comments thus far with the project, and I'm glad to hear I'm in the top ten of your favorite Land Raiders Sword Brethren- going sorta head first into this whole painting competition thing and hearing such things gives me a bit of hope to reach my goal- placing in the competition...only time, and inconcievable amounts of paint will tell...indeed..but first I must finish this darn thing.... ANYWHOO off to pictures! The Front- http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0001-7.jpg The Top http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0002-7-1.jpg Side One http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0003-8.jpg Side Two http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0005-8.jpg The Back http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0004-8.jpg I just gotta actually put weapons on the tank now- that way the foul enemies of mankind won't be only killed by artwork speeding at them on tank treds. I'll be sure to update this post again once the LRC has some teeth on it  Thank you for your time, all comments and suggestions are always welcome- and have a great Holiday. -Cease Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/#findComment-2225056 Share on other sites
Ceasarian
Good day, and happy new year! I have come with some updates with my LRC project. It's uh...for lack of a better word...DONE :D This is the longest running project I've done in my two years painting mini's (since I got back into the game). I've been painting this one tank since the start of October on and off due to my ill-fated decision to declare a double major and other issues. But it's nearly done! Any comments and suggestions is requested and greatly appreciated- depending on your comments I may get a few more things on the tank reworked or finished off. I'll take some pics later on with a far better camera- as it will hopefully take some better quality shots than what I have at the moment. -I originally attempted to add a Grey Knight crew member using the melta gun on the top, however I was concerned with what color to paint it (red with a silver shoulder plate, or silver with a red shoulder plate?), and my green stuff scuplting abilities aren't that good yet- plus my planning to put a metal GK model manning the gun as well fell apart (either the gunner would be shooting the melta with his storm bolter, or be looking off into the distant lol)- so I decided due to all these problems, no crew member on the tank. The Front: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0001-8.jpg The Top: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0005-9.jpg Side One: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0002-8.jpg Side Two: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0003-9.jpg The Back: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p370/TheBatchMobile/000_0004-9.jpg That's all for now- like I said I may do a couple of changes later on down the road- the deadline is looming at Jan. 31st! And as such any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Have a great day, and thank you again for your time. -Cease Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/#findComment-2232557 Share on other sites

Ceasarian
Thanks Brother Loring, this is only my second attempt at painting so much freehand on a model, the first was my GK Grandmaster (see the little picture next to this post- my avatar pic lol :) ) I've created a post on the Hall of Honor of the finished pictures. Thank you all for your comments throughout this WIP thread, they helped me to finally finish this project as well as help give me faith in my painting abilities to attempt some of the more detailed parts of the LRC. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=188950 -Cease Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185273-ceasarians-gk-lrc-project-for-the-gb/#findComment-2235936 Share on other sites
