War Gear Options for my Wolfguard Terminators

I am struggling to outfit my 5 wolf guard terminators with an effective wargear combination.

My army has 30 grey hunters of which two are in rhinos. I have Canis and a pack of wolves, 2 Vindicators, Long Fangs, and a squad of thunderwolf cavalry. My terminators and a pack of Grey hunters are the only units either that are not in transports or Fleet.

I’d like your opinions on how to outfit the squad as my points are maxed out.

Choice A:

2x PW and SB

1X Cyclone, SB, and CF

2X Powerfists

Or

Choice B:

2x PW and SB

1X Heavy Flamer and CF

2x Wolf Claw and Storm Shield

Well if I had 230 points to spend.

2 Wolf Guard with storm bolter and wolf claw, 1 with storm bolter and power weapon 1 with assault cannon and power fist, 1 with storm bolter and chainfist for 230 points.

Power weapon takes the first wound. Wolf claws kill at initiative. Power fist thumps hard targets. Chainfist deals with armour. Storm bolters and assault cannon mow down infantry.

Thats cool as I do have 225-230 points to spend. I like the setup you proposed but seeing how this unit will have to footslog across the board, do you think the wolf claw models should have shields to provide a 3+ invulnerable save to the squad, or does the wolf claw and storm bolter work out well?

My foot sloggin WG looks like this for 250

2 SS/WC

1 SB/CF

1 SB/PW

1 CML SB/PW

for 240 drop the WC,

I just hope they get shot at, so I march them down the middle toward a mid objective. Just past mid table is about as far as you can get foot sloggin. They basically are there to control the middle zone. Very useful if I am against a Drop Pod army as well.

Vrox.

To be honest I don't know. I don't use storm shields.

I take the combinations because with terminators you're paying for two things, their firepower and their close combat ability. If you take away their ranged ability then they're useless anywhere outside 12 inches. If I were taking storm shields I'd go for storm bolter/storm shield and hope that they died before I got into combat.

Bloodglaive this seems a pretty neat all-round setup – but I notice no combi-weapons in the mix. If it were me, I'd be using one combi-melta as insurance and also to extend wound allocation to its fullest extent (as all models would be different in game terms). But given the other answers in this topic I want to ask you guys if combi-(anything) is worth the upgrade points for WGT units as no-one seems to be advocating it?

Cheers

Isiah,

Combi Weapons are good for Wolf Guard, and many do advocate them, it's just that the boxed set doesn't come with any, so they require one to go out looking for the right bits, and some minimal converting to be done. Otherwise, at only 5 points now, the Combi Weapons are a bargain, especially for Terminators with Relentless.

However, as to taking different weapons and wargear to take advantage of Wound Allocation; there isn't a huge advanage with this for our Terminators, as they only have one Wound each. The tactic is much more helpful on two Wound units like the Thunderwolf Cavalry.
