Cusulop
Hello I'm still getting back into the hobby and my painting skills are atrocious, especially flesh tones. I was wondering if any of you more seasoned painters would be willing to lend me some advice on what I could do to improve the following (I am willing to strip the paint and start over): http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7910/picture6op.jpg I know the camera quality isn't the best, I'm working with a Logitech Quickcam ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185353-wip-space-marine-captain/ Share on other sites
Virtus quod Veneratio
I paint an even coat of bronzed flesh. Wash it completely with flesh wash. Then highlight with bronzed flesh, followed by a thinner highlight of a bronzed flesh/skull white (say 2:1 ratio). It aint golden deamon, but it gets the job done. (and yes, I still use paints that were around in 2nd edition. I guess dwarf flesh would be the equivalent, maybe elf flesh) He's a bit dusty. http://i817.photobucket.com/albums/zz93/jesse_sr20/faces005.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185353-wip-space-marine-captain/#findComment-2191526 Share on other sites
StratoKhan
Cusulop, that looks pretty good to me, but it's a bit hard to tell with your camera. If you're interested in a lengthy process you can see if this tutorial is useful? There is also this other thread by T_55 that might help you out as it produces a different skin tone. Just some methods that you can adapt to get the skintone you want I guess. Welcome back to painting by the way, it's tough to get back into it at first isn't it? I'm still pretty rusty. Captain Mike
I find you can do pale skin rather easy using ogryn flesh, dheneb stone and elf flesh. 2 Watered down layers of dheneb stone, for a solid but not too thick covering 2 Watered down layers of ogryn flesh 1 light drybrush of elf flesh. pingo
I found GW's article on painting faces in WD really great. It's on their website here: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...mp;aId=3700001a It really improved my flesh tones (I think a little touch of grey in the mix is the biggest tip I got from this), but it really depends on your style and what kind of skin colour you want your marines to be though. JTMW
I do a coat of Bleached Bone, Followed by a Leviathan Purple Wash, and then a coat of very watered down Bleached Bone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185353-wip-space-marine-captain/#findComment-2191844 Share on other sites
Cusulop
Thank you all so much, I've always struggled with fleshtones. These suggestions and links are a huge help to me. I've typically avoided flesh tones by having all my marines with their helmets on whenever possible. Maybe now we'll see some nicely painted faces popping up in my army :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185353-wip-space-marine-captain/#findComment-2191978 Share on other sites
