The roll of honour

Well I actually had a game today and was surprised at the performance of some of my wolves.

First off has to be the tag-team of my Land Raider and Long Fang with lascannon which proceeded to take out the opponent's Redeemer in the second turn, the land raider took a single shot, which afforded a cover save and immobilized it, but the long fang finished it off, on second thoughts I probably should have shot at an alternate target considering it wasn't within 24 inches.

Second has to be my pack leader with my wolf scouts, armed with a thunder hammer and storm bolter he weathered several turns in combat with a combat squad and scout squad containing Telion before the wolf guard fell, preventing the units mauling the rest of my force.

Finally is one of my wolf guard with grey hunter pack, the pack itself destroyed the approaching predator and was subsequently dropped to three combatants after being assaulted by five lightning claw terminators, fleeing the combat they turned and regrouped, only to get munched again, it was down to the pack leader and three terminators and he managed to best them on his own. His final action was to attack the enemies captain and he dealt a death blow which the storm shield could not prevent, unfortunately he was laid low by the captain's sole remaining thunder hammer terminator.

That wolf guard should be interred in a dreadnought I feel.

So post the heroics of certain units in the name of Russ.

Let me tell you a tale of my first ever game returning to the hobby.

Twas a 1500 point doubles tournament, with my good friend Andy commanding his gritty die-hard Imperial Guard. Our first opponent's were a strange mix of the over-zealous Inquisition and Eldar. During the second turn my Grey Hunters and Wolf Guard Battle Leader were charged by a squad of striking scorpions, who were wiped out to a man with the loss of one wolf brother. Our second turn that followed saw the same Grey Hunters and WGBL charge into a Grey Knight combat squad, with the WGBL killing every one of them single handedly. Our opponent's responded by driving their armoured fist squad towards my squad and blasting away at them with their flashlights after disembarking. Alas! They failed to bring down a single marine! The Inquisition soon saw their folly when they were charged by the Grey Hunters and cut down to 3 men, who tried to flee.....into the side of their own transport and were wiped out. I thought the carnage would never end for my WGBL, but sadly he was cut down two turns later to a single hit from a nemesis force weapon carried by some deep striking GK Terminators.

His memory will ring through the halls of the Fang for eternity for his great deeds that day.

(Whilst on the other side of the table, 40 guardsmen met the Avatar in hand to hand combat, bringing him down with the butts of their lasguns!)

well i have heroics from my old chaos force against my buddies 13th company, as my daemon prince locked 3 full groups of wulfen in combat for 3 rounds was pretty sick.

also had a time where i charged a group of blood claws into a squad of striking scorpions killing about 1/2 of them with the next turn seeing him charge his howling banshee's in pretty sure i had them locked from bottom of turn 3 until the end of the game, those models got sold (i've sold 2 SW armies and keep comming back for more). wish i hadn't though seeing as now they would have been promoted to grey hunters

brought in my wolfscouts to threaten his wave serpents rear armor, but instead decided to attack a squad with a pesky bright lance. did some decent shooty dmg, when it came to close combat they tore the guardians to shreds, and the nearby avatar granted them fearless. causing panic and enough wounds to wipe the squad out. The eldar were enraged by the scouts that had just drawn so much blood, the Godlike avatar roared as it stomped over to them, impaling one on its way with its wailing doom. for the next 2 turns the avatar could not strike any of the smaller, and more agile wolf scouts. scouts caused two wounds and had the avatar tied up for 2 rounds before he managed to kill them off one at a time, i think it was finaly out of combat on a turn 5 or 6 and was not to healthy as the rest of the eldar force had been dominated. my land raider had reached the area at that time and Ragnar and his 9 wolf guard with frostblades assaulted and decimated the wounded beast.
Let me tell you the tale of Falban Firefist, also called "armless bloody tin can!" by a tau player. 750pts kill points battle againts the tau, my dread comes down on turn one in his droppod and vaporises the hammer head before it can do anything ^_^ . Then the guy's crisis suits close range and rapid fire Falban's back armor with plasma rifles and missile pods. Two weapon destroyed results later my dread is armless but otherwise unharmed. He proceded to assault the crisis suit squad and over the next four turns kick (or was it headbutt?) all three of them to death! Even my opponent was laughing by the end of it. He even graciously gave me a spare crisis suit head to model onto Falban as a trophy.

A couple of fine individual sagas:

-Lone Wolf Grendel, a terminator with chainfist and stormshield, and his loyal (Expendable!) Fenrisian Wolves chewed through a unit of deep striking chaos raptors, a 7 man unit of Mark of Khorne Chaos Marines, the remains of a unit of bezerkers and then, for the finale, charged into a wounded warptime daemon prince and took his final two wounds with a couple swings of his chainfist. I have now converted him into a battle leader... deserved recognition for a true hero of Fenris.

My other favourite saga is the tale of my warrior born namesake Nostromo (TDA, WC, SS), who killed 37 Dark Eldar in a single 1500 point battle - my opponent poored units into him, foolishly, and he had at least 8 attacks for four player turns in a row! While his 10 man Grey Hunter bodyguard died around him and his land raider crusader exploded behind him, his wolf claw reaped an incredible tally. I made a ridiculous number of storm shield saves in a row - something like 15... Incubi power weapons :D At the end of the battle, my opponent claimed he would never challenge the heroes of the Space Wolves again! Awesome stuff.

Yesterday in a Wolf vs Wolf training scenario one of my Lascannon armed Long Fangs managed to snipe Ragnar, his Wolf Guard unit had been decimated by the sheer amount of firepower unloaded into it and it was down to the young Lord and his trusted Terminator, the Long Fang pack engaged and the Terminator's force field protected him from the Lascannon shot, only for his Lord to be cut down with a shot to the chest.

I was most impressed with my Wolfguard in TDA with CML/SB/CF leading a pack of Grey Hunters on foot. Turn 1 he pops an Ork trukk, Turn 2 he frags the orks that spilled out of said Trukk. Turn 3 he take a charge from a Warboss on bike and a Deff Dread, his unit takes a pounding but he manages to kill off the Warboss with his chainfist and then spends the rest of the game removing parts from the Deff dread untill it blows up in his face. He and the remaining Grey hunters then capture an objective and win the game for me.

However this must have been pennace for his performance in the previous battle against some Imperial Guard because he missed every single shot and fell to the floor after a guardsmen shined a flashlight in his face

My most heroic moment was when a friend of mine charged his DP into my armoured fist IG in 4th ed w/ 2 wounds left. My Sgt. killed him good =D

Also, in 5th ed, same friend charged his, now Khornemarked, DP into my Lone Wolf w/ TDA, SS; TH. Two combat rounds later his DP was dead, and my LW was unharmed.
