Logan Grimnar, The Great Wolf

hey B&C...

finally, i've taken the time to paint a mini just because i wanted to...

i've had this mini waiting to get painted since he was a new release in 2001 (i believe)...

i think this is the first Termie i've ever painted...

it's hard to remember for sure, but in my 23 years of painting i don't think i've ever painted my favorite type of Space Marine...

[EDIT]actually, i painted Typhus, so this is my second Termie...

i wanted to try my hand at the "French Style" of painting, with unusual tones and softer edges...

this is my first attempt at some blending instead of layering...

this is my second attempt at battle damage...

my first try was on the white armour of Kor'sarro Khan, and i wasn't able to get the strong highlight that i got to play with here...

painted entirely with P3 paints...

playing with Trollblood Base, Underbelly Blue, Coal Black, White, and Turquoise Ink for the armour was quite fun...

You honor the Great Wolf painting him that incredibly good.

He almost come alive and I really want some close-ups on the axe.

However, your choice of base confuse me. It doesnt seem fitting with the wood there. Personally I would rather, even if each and every one does it, put him on a rock.

Ah yes, the face is beutifully panted!

:D....a buddy turned me onto the trollbloods colors for wolves a few months ago and as Im still in the process of building and not painting my wolves yet it is good to see what someone is doing with those colors...like what I see man! course all you stuff is good:)

personally I think charging over the barrier is a good choice for the great wolf

@Malika: i don't have any step-by-step pics of this mini, but i will have some interesting stuff coming up that will have White Dwarf Masterclass style pics for the next Darkson Designs painting guide...

we'll have to see what style i work with, as i'm all over the map right now...

@beejay: the hair is some simple layers, since it has such a great texture...

first was a liberal coat of P3 Greatcoat Grey...

next was some Trollblood Highlight, just pickin' out the details and bein' careful to leave the Greatcoat showing in the deep spots...

the final highlight was pure White, as i wanted the hair and beard to be the brightest part of the mini...

as with everything, i try to keep it as simple as possible...

this is a mini intended for someone to use on the tabletop after all...

cheers

Wow, thats a really cool logan right there, good idea to elevate his base though, otherwise he looks far too stooped over.

I'm impressed with the colours. I've been a mainly GW/Vallejo/Tamiya man for years, but, these P3 paints sound ever more tempting, and seeing effects like that, really gets me interested :P

Its just a shame your selling him on ebay and not playing him on the battlefield!

thanks guys....

@nurglepuss: i don't play any games, i just paint like a madman...

this guy would just gather dust here...

better he finds a good home, where he will be appreciated...

@B&C:

i hate to ask, but i'm a few votes shy of 50 on Coolmini, so this guy doesn't count towards my rank yet...

sunday is 1 year of submitting pics in my gallery there, and i'd like to see where i rank after a year...

i'm totally goin' for #1 next year;)...

if you could pop over and cast a vote, i'd really appreciate it:

Well, this is much better than many "french styles" I know, so congrats !

Very crisp, clean, readable and a good choice of colors. Two little things IMHO : The color of the rune in the middle of the cloak would gain from a natural color (boney or stone) for it is most probably a simple artisan work and it looks strange with a color so close from the armor one. The old wolf armory gives little place to personal choices so shoulderpad has to be black. I therefore think that you should push up a little the furs highlighting to gain a more readable transition between it and the pad.

You're a very talented painter and I hope to see more (the black head fer wolf is a really good idea, it brings much contrast to the head and draws attention to it).

Good effort, for French Style. Sounds a bit dirty, rather like bum.

Anyway it is a bit too blue for me. I'm no expert, but Space Wolf Grey should be more grey than blue else they'd call it Space Wolf blue. Ultra's a the blue army. I've seen the Troll bloods and P3 paint needs a lot of shaking but I use one pot I learned of on B&C Blighted Gold with my nurgle stuff more and more.

I actually like Foundry paint but it is expensive and no one carries it locally. We'll see how my latest batch comes out. Keep on keepin' on.
