titan only apoc. games?

Recommended Posts

has any one played a game of apoc. w/ only titans, and played at 'titan' range?

on a regular board titans don't really need to move, so have you played a long range game that was only (or mostly) titans and long ranged?

if so pics and batreps would be appreciated.

I have never played in one per say but I did basically act as the "referee" for one. Basically said, their were ten (10) seperate tables with cmparable terrain that was the layout of a major city. Corresponding tables; tables that if placed together would actually touch each other could fire at each other based on table distance and not real distance because we, the refs and the players, had to walk between them. It worked out actually very well,....there was a combined total of twenty seven (27) Titans. No ground troops, flyers or tanks (super heavies included). It was an awsome bout! The biggest Titan on the board was an scratch built Imperator while the smallest were scratch built Knights. The opposing side was made up of fifteen (15) ork Stompas of various sizes and weapons layout. It rolled out like this:

1 Imperator

1 Warlord

2 Reavers

5 Warhounds

3 Knights

opposing 15 ork Stompas.

Sorry, no pictures but the battle laid out like this: the big daddy was obviously the Imperator and he brought the most pain to the Orks; he killed a whopping 4 and wounded 3 others to the point where they were combat ineffective. We lost one Reaver by round 2 based on an extremely lucky volley, but hey, thems the breaks. The Warhounds were the next big winner as they were able to harrass the enemy and keep him off balance. Surprisingly the Knights did well as their role quickly turned into finding wounded Stompas and finishing them off. The game lasted the whole day but it was well worth it.

The next big bash we have planned will include troops, flyers and other vehicles. Basically said we know what we are doing now and are trying to improve upon it.

Hope that helps or at least gives you a frame of reference.

get pics of this next one. omg i'd love to see it :D
I imagine that using the Adeptus Titanicus rules (with the ranges and movements adjusted for the increased scale of the models) would be a lot more fun than using the Apocalypse rules. There's just a lot more "titany" details in there.

To be honest, we did look a tad bit at that,....turning and max speeds, plus the placement of and what counts as a difficult terrain to a Knight does not necessarily mean the same to a Imperator. Those were the kinds of issues we were having, so we had the three "refs" and had put together some standard house rules. That helped a great deal.

*snip* Sorry, no pictures *snip*
Then it never happened..., no wait, that's a 4Chan rule..... every apoc game I've played, someone takes photos... ask around some more, someone has to have some... ;)

i can't believe all these people knew they'd be using titans and no one had a camera. (if i had a titan, i'd take at least one pic every time i saw it.)

Well to be honest, nobody was really worried about it. We were (and still are) more worried about rules and how the game would play out; especially with all of that terrain. For example:

1. Its really darn easy to hide Knights and under the right circumstances Warhounds in cover. Stomping out into the middle of the plaza without a plan will get your gift from the Omnissiah killed in no time.

2. Certain Apoc Assets work very well while others do little to nothing when it comes to Titans. Blind Barrage, Precision Strike and Jammers are money! Strategic Redeployment and Vortex Grenade were meh,...

3. Anything, and I do mean anything, that will strip away void shields is good unless it is directed at you.

4. There were so many times that both sides were thinking, "man, if I just had a some Infantry or some Armor right there,.." the thing is I see your support force being broken into two distinct types: anti-infantry/armor and anti-Titan.

5. It aint always the big guy that does the most; granted as I said earlier, or Imperator laid the "smacketh" down but the smaller Titans were hooking and jabbing the whole game. That and the biggest boy on the board was also the biggest missle magnet. To be honest I was amazed he didnt die by round 5,...he lasted all 12 rounds.

if i had an imperator, i'd have it on it's own plinth, recording it just sitting there....it would be a glorious model, and every time it walks, i would want to have a record of it. (ok, it'd be glorious if painted by some one other than myself)

That doesn't surprise me. My Epic Imperator has seen many battles, but I'm pretty sure it only went down once, when a Vortex Missile scored a direct hit on its head!

I have helped out in a Titan only apoc game on the side of the Imperials. the two sides consisted of something like this:

Imperial

1 Imperator

3 Warlords

2 Reavers

8 Warhounds

Nids/Orks

6 Hierophants

6 Stompas

4 Gargants

most of the data sheets used were our own though. and sorry but none of us bothered to take pictures of that epic battle.
