Real life Space Marines WIP 56k warning

Recommended Posts

On the beginning I'd like to welcome everyone here. Let me introduce myself. My name is Chris, I'm from Poland (country in middle-east Europe ;) ). So I'd like to excuse all of you for my English, I'm not very good in it but I'm working on that.

The reason why I'm here is not that I'm playing WH40k but I like this Universe. I like it so much that I always wanted to have my own real SP (who doesn't ;) ).

The reason why I'm here is that I'd like to introduce you The Space Marine. Or I should say Space Marines.

Project is not done yet, but will be soon I hope. It is expensive thing, yet we are determined.

Firstly, we were hoping to built Grey Knights, but the whole idea failed with the painting for Polyester Resin. There no silver paint. Then we decided to choose are own Chapters and so begun the big thinking thing.

My friend whos name is Wojtek chose The Deathwatch http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/c/c7/Deathwatch01.jpg

I chose Legion of the Damned http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/2/2d/LegionoftheDamned.jpg

The pictures of WIP are below, the short movie is on the down of my post.

As you can see we still don't have belts and helmets. But we heve few ideas. For today we finished first layer of resin and backpacks (which are not on the pics)

Enjoy and stay tuned, updates soon. If you have questions I'll answer them gladly.

Great job so far, Gringo! Would you say the armor is easy or hard to move around in?

You can see that armor is big. It obviously limit our movements. Because of shoulder plates we'll be unable to raise our arms so much. Because of helmet we won't be able to see all around. Because of chestplates we won't be able to fight by sword as much as we like to. Some of you probably noticed that lower legs are straight lines. Well, they are not. At least not at all. We decided to do it like that to make walking easier. After all, standing even short time with hooked legs would be difficult. Finally I want to say that we were prepared to more movement limits. It was surprise then we figured out that walking or doing something in full armor is not as hard as it looks.

When we finish out work we will record some movies about testing armors, their capabilities and limits.

please can you make me a suit please please please

Well, It could be quite difficult. We're not finished our yet ^_^ Yesterday we've done cylinders from backpack. You'd be surprised what we used to made engine flows or whatever it is. Kids playing balls. Seriously.

Yet the worst part is still ahead of us. Helmets. Any ideas how to make it? We found nice-looking helmet of SM to program Pepakura. Quite nice but difficult to do so. We're looking for an easier solution. We conciderd the motorbike helmet but it's too expensive.

Awesome,

You guys should try some expandable foam like this:

http://www.reynoldsam.com/gallery.php?gall...&cPath=1122

You take a box and fill it 25% full of expandable foam similar to this and the carve out the pieces with a electric carving knife. Then cover it with auto body body filler and sand it in to the proper shape.

This will create a solid piece that is also pretty sturdy.

I plan on creating one shoulder, one full arm and one full leg and then creating a mold and cast pieces with Smooth-on 300. This way I only have to do half the work to create two sides.

The shoulderpads look to long acording to me... But otherwise, good job! ;)

We tried to rescale the size of shoulder plates from the models. They look long because they are just lying on chests. In normal using they will be higher so they will not look so long.

I think the amor around the legs and arms should stick out more, bulkier.

Honestly speaking I don't understand what you mean :( If you mean that armor on legs and arms should fit better I agree but never forget - SM armor should be big :) And we building it to be useful and comfortable not only good looking :)
