Geass
Well ive been around here for about a couple of months and ive been to shy to ask my questions, but what the heck :P . My 1st question is am i getting the right models >.>''. right now i have 2 packs of grey hunters, 5 skyclaws, 3 swiftclaws, 5 wulfen (yes the GW ones), Njal, Wolf lord with lightning claws, and about 5 wolf gaurd in power armour, oh and a homemade wolf priest. And for channuka i am getting ! land raider crusaider, 2 tactical squads, 2 boxes of scouts, the SW termie box, Logan, Ulrik, and Cannis, 2 bkies, 1 devorstator squad, and a razorback for them. I wanted to know if this is a good selection of models to get for a newbie, And my second one is do you have any hints to defeat tau :P my friend plays them and i just cant beat them (but i beat my mates BA and my other mates nids hands down) and finaly i wanted to know if missile launcer were worth giving to my Long fangs, because one of my friends sez they are worthless! Oh and thank you ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185574-a-little-help-please/ Share on other sites
Heimdal
and finaly i wanted to know if missile launcer were worth giving to my Long fangs, because one of my friends sez they are worthless! Oh and thank you ^^ In my own opinion they are the best choice you have for the Long Fangs. High strength, good AP, can use frag to deal with hordes, got long range and are cheap. A perfect choice! Dark Bjoern
The SW battle force costs the same as the 2 Tactical suqads and one scout box. The battle force includes 2 SW packs, one scout pack also a droppod, so it´s the better deal. And you have so much spare bits that you can easyly convert the Devastor squad into Long Fangs. If you want to expand your scouts, you should get one scout box seperat. Geass
was thinking about battle force, but i already have 2 SW boxes and i wanted to get the stuff the tactical quads came with, like the flamer and so on and such. I was gona get the battle force later in the year ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185574-a-little-help-please/#findComment-2194459 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Tacticals are good- mix and match with the wolf boxes to get a more toned down but sweet looking set of squads :P. Gives you more weapon options... wich is always a plus. And yes, thats a great selection for a begginner.... much more than most can afford or will get. So yes, Id say your set. The only thing Id reccommend otherwise would be a couple rhinos- so perhaps the Marine Battlefore should be looked into- more assault marines, a tac squad, scouts, and a rhino. Geass
One of my friends told me to get rhinos as well, but i realy would rather have Drop pods (i think i might end up getting the battle force after all D: )i like the idea of lots of Marines coming out of drop pods in the enemy's base. Grey Mage
Drop pods are amazing... but if you use them, youd be better off getting another one instead of the landraider. Hfran Morkai
Drop pods are amazing... but if you use them, youd be better off getting another one instead of the landraider. Or two... I've come round to liking drop pods but for me to be happy I'd have to take pretty much an entire force of them so as not to launch a single suicide squad. Would've been even more tempting for drop pod wolves if our scouts could take a locator beacon, infiltrate and have fun. Hence why my drop army will be codex marines (heresy!) Hfran Morkai
ah i get what you mean >.< i will probably end up doing that. But do u have any advice for defeating tau, i just cant. Against Tau I think drop pods would work very well, allowing you to get a good part of your army right on his lines, perhaps a deathwind launcher in one pod to take out a rank or so. Then you rapid fire him with grey hunters and hopefully charge next turn. Scouts operate behind enemy lines with a wolf guard with thunder hammer/powerfist and the pack has meltabombs and maybe a power weapon and you can deal with tanks or battlesuits or just have fun butchering his fire warriors. Geass
thanks for the advice against my tau friend, but he keeps going on about how he is going to be mechanized, will that be that big of a problem? Grey Mage
Not if you bring meltaguns, assault cannons, autocannons, and/or missile launchers to the fight. Transports are useful, but if you have the firepower to take them out quickly theyre just easy kill points. A couple of Drop Pod dreadnaugths would be good... send them down with grey hunters, pop the transports, use the hunters to eviserate the squad inside. A good sized bike pack, or some land speeders, to chase down any stragglers and get you some extra heavy weaponry... and your golden. Tau are tough, but in many ways theyre as easy to kill as orks. Geass
thanks for the advice :) but now i remebered my 4th question do you get a kill point for killing a dedicated transport? I was never to shure. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185574-a-little-help-please/#findComment-2194495 Share on other sites

I was gona get the battle force later in the year ^^ Whatchu mean by "toned down"? Are you saying that a squad built straight from the SW pack box looks over-laden with crazy wolf iconography? In that case, I agree with you. Wolf skulls all over the place, and here I figured only leaders would run around with those stuck to their armor. I was never to shure. Yes, its a seperate unit once it hits the table top- in dawn of war scenarios it even counts as one of your deployed units, even it the unit its dedicated to is inside. Also- you get a KP for the Tau commander, and another for the bodygaurd he can select... the rule is found on "Retinues" in the core book. Geass
That means my blood angel friend still hasn't won a game :) he killed my squad of skyclaws and i only killed his rhino (he was just sitn behind cover, it was a boring game) he said i didn't get a killpoint for the rhino. Thank you for the clarification! now it was a draw :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/185574-a-little-help-please/#findComment-2194501 Share on other sites
