What's the general agreement about SW color?

Hey all.

My SM models (Soon going to be SWs!) have been painted a dark gray, similar to Codex Gray. I was wondering though, which is more widely excepted in the community, if my army is not Pre-Heresy, or 13th Company.

Thanks for any/all comments.

I think painting your SW in a tone of grey you like is what is more widely excepted in the community. Having said that I think the scale tips towards more standard greys (Codex grey, Adeptus Battle grey, Fortress grey)rather than the blue-greys. That's the impression I get from reading the threads for several weeks now.

Personally I don't like the blue-grey scheme and hence paint mine with an Adeptus Battle grey undercoat. :P

Edit: Take a look at this thread for some inspiration. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=66089

Go with the color you like. I don't even use GW paints, as I prefer Testor's Model Master. If you like blue-gray, use it or if you prefer the older grays, use them. Paint your army in a scheme you like, that is one of the great things about us Wolves.

I'm pretty partial to Fenris Grey mixed with Space Wolf Grey, myself. My first exposure to the Space Wolves was an ancient red Citadel catalog from the early 90s, in which the Space Wolves were a powder blue. Mine are far darker than that color, but I've always felt there should be some blue in the grey of the Space Wolves.

But at the heart of the matter, you're the Wolf Lord, you get to pick your own color scheme. :-)

I agree you should go for what you like.

Personally really like the SW grey. I basecoat in black, drybrush over this with the SW grey, then go over with the same colour (more strongly than the drybrush) for areas I want to highlight. A very quick way of painting. For HQ's I sometimes put a weak wash of blue ink (GW)

I agree with night runner, it's all on what you like better. I myself went with the shadow grey doused in badab black. Then I drybrush the shadow grey back over. Gives it an interesting look.
Thanks, Jester! I'll try my best at giving them a new and interesting look.

Actually, I also use Testors Model-Masters.

Thanks Magnus! I may add a bit of blue to my Wolves, maybe even give them blue eye lenses. Hmmm, I'll have to look into that....

For me its shadow grey with sw grey highlights...

Characters may get a lighter paintjob although it depends

My colour scheme is based mainly on 2nd edition look

That actually sounds pretty close to the color scheme I'm going to be trying for, except I use Testor's Model Masters.

That seems a pretty simple way to paint, H.D.L., I'll look into that. Thanks!

my general agreement is paint them however you like, paint them pink if you want
Because real men wear pink. :) Unless you're the EC, that is.

Almost forgot, ale for all!

*Passes ale out to everyone.*
