Space Marine ~ Corvus Armor (a.k.a. Beakie Armor)

Hello, I have been an extremely long time lurker... but never had really anything to contribute. many of you are far more knowledgeable about the game and the rules than I. I also don't get the opportunity to play much now that I somehow grew up. I still don't know how that happened but it's on my list of things to fix.

I am more of a hobbyist than a gamer when it comes to the 40k universe. I've been in and out of the game from the very beginning. As time went on I stop playing and worked more on the art, and eventually that too faded.

Recently, looking for Halloween costumes I stumbled on a site that helps you build costumes and gave it a try this year. Now, I'm completely addicted! Halloween is over and now it's time to make a suit of armor for myself. I'm still working on it but thought that everyone here would like to see it. I know there have been some great suit made over the years but this one is so easy I can even I do it with very little time and relatively minimal cost!

Check out the photos below and let me know what you all think. Also forgive me if I posted this in the wrong forum.

Peace, Chwbcc

PS. This was built using Pepakura, Fiberglass and bondo and the files were designed by a guy named Samuray. Check out his thread on the 405th.com here:

But will you be able to see out of your helmet?

Oh yeah I will dremel out the eyes and I am working on finding some lenses to fit the openings. I am also going to add in the vents on the side and pad the interior and add chin straps and velcro for the neck lining and head gear.

It is going to be totally wearable.

The color is just a base coat right now and I still have some filling to do but I think I am going to go Ultramarine with this.

I also hope to create some molds and cast several copies.

Awesome looking armor, Chwbcc! As for lenses, how about using shooters glasses? They come in a variety of colors for various environments, but look awesome.

As for the chapter, how about the Space Wolves?

Great work so far but I have some question and suggestions. Question firs. I see the program you use is Pepakura, am I right? I'm wondering how you gonna do the chestplate? And how stable is whole construction?

Now the suggestion. I believe that shoulder plate is too big. It will limit you movements. Believe me, I know what I'm saying because I'm building the SM armor also but with different technique. You can see it in this topic: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=185504

If you want discuss some thing just write a PM.

I wish you good luck, you gonna need it ^_^

I love those suits... they also have a Terminator but it was horrible and I believe incomplete. They only used the top half for the filming.

As for the QnA about Pepakura, The process is to resin the paper, then Resin and fiberglass the interior and finally bondo the outside. With the chest I do plan on putting on a couple layers of Fiberglass for stability. Once I pad the interior and add in the backpack harness it will be extremely stable. I see you are working on something similar to the Black Templar costumes I've see on the net. They are great costumes but I felt the detail was a bit unrefined but that is primarily the materials they used to make it. I love the frame work the Templar costume use but I am trying to keep the weight to a minimum.

I will post up some plans so you can see the route I am taking.

The Helm is actually rock solid using this process and my kids have knocked it on the ground a few times running around the house and it's fine.

I was thinking about using something like this for the lenses but post some links to anything else you think might work. I'm not really at that stage yet but will be soon enough.

And what is wrong with the Dora tooth brush? Marines have their comfort items too, you know!

Geaux Saints!

Well we shall see. I wish you the best as I said before. But I have a little request. Would you be so kind and share the belt and pants schematics?

Belt and pants:

Sure thing, I've worked 10 years at Walt Disney World here in Orlando, as a Character Entertainer. So I am going to incorporate some of the things I've seen in my tenure there.

The below image is a quick sketch of the Buzz Lightyear costume that is very close to a Marine in may regards.

I am going to take the bottom half of a t-shirt and attach it to the top half of a pair of shorts.

Then I am going to add ribbing to the shirt and cover it with another layer of fabric. (just another t-shirt bottom)

Then add a pair of suspenders to keep it all up high enough so the cod piece won't sag.

Next I am going to add Velcro to the edges of the cod piece, both the top and both leg holes.

I will apply velcro to the short where I want the cod piece to stay. This will give an appearance of a sealed suit and make my mid section look larger.

Finally I will add more velcro to the bottom of my shorts so I can attach the upper legs to the midsection.

Since I am making this out of very light weight plastic the cloth and suspenders will be plenty strong enough to hold it all up.

Below is my sketch, What do you think?

I would love to recreate the rogue trader cover in live action! or real photos at least! hehehe

Nice idea, I like it. Yet there is still problem with shoulder plates, at least in my suit. I have a few ideas to fix it. If you need help with something just ask :)

As you noticed, my project is quite the same as Black Templars. Of course I had to change some things to make suit more useful for me. After all it should hang on 1000FPS ASG ball on the LARP where I'm going :)

I love the Templars costumes they were the first real innovators.

Upper arms and shoulders are going to be attached to the chest with some strapping and of course velcro!

Fiber glass is toxic when you are apply it to the Pepakura, but once it cures it actually really safe. I however am not going to be wearing this version, I am going to make a mold and cast plastic versions.
