Flying Snowboards?

2 days ago i saw someone using Spacewolves on Flying Snowboards, i asked him what they were and he said they were Thunderwolf cavalry. I liked this idea very much but thought about using them as Skyclaws instead.

Just wondering what all of you think of this idea. I think it somehow fits Skyclaws.

Actually, flying boards (Silver Surfer style), was a piece of kit that you could purchase back in the Rogue Trader book. I'll have to go look that up when I get home and see what the details on that were, but if my rusty memory serves they were a great option to make your expensive heroes super mobile and fast.

Valerian

That's an interesting idea...

I have a couple of DE Hellion board. I might try to stick some SW on those and see how rubbish it looks...

Those are more Goblin style (from spiderman duh) I'am talking about snowboard style (or silver surfer)

Really? Stupid like a 12 year old sleeping with a dozen women in one night, or a small child being raised by wolves (giant, snarling marine-eating wolves), or a marine riding such a wolf?

You're right, anti-grav surf boards are way dumb, completely out of place in Warhammer 40k.

That's kind of a bogus argument, though. There's a degree of suspension of disbelief involved in all of the 40k fluff, so even if there's bits that's somewhat silly compared to real life, it usually makes sense in the context in which it is found.

While I'll admit that Canis being raised by wolves, or Lukas' prowess (His age is never mentioned, by the way), seems a wee bit silly at first glance, there's two factors that one shouldn't forget. First off, one should consider that the blurbs in the codex about the characters are not necessarily the true, hard cold facts, but rather what the myths and rumors surrounding them say. In Canis's case it's worth mentioning that according to Fenrisian Myth and Legend, Russ himself was actually raised by wolves on Fenris, which of course makes Canis extra special.

And second, that while Canis's story may seem completely far fetched, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feral_child#1980s_to_2000 will show that it is something that has actually occured in reality before and occasionally still happens.

Regarding the thunderwolves, a lot of people neglect the fact that they're not just giant wolves, they're giant wolves that have been cybernetically enhanced to the point of being able to carry a space marine.

Not only have anti-grav surfboards not been seen since apparently Rogue Trader, anti-grav surfboards do not make sense in the context of Space Marines in general, they especially do not make sense in the context of the Space Wolves, who are stereotypically Viking SpaceMarine Werewolves.

Eldar, or Dark Eldar? Sure. Marines? That's not fluffy.

I do not think of them as vikings, although their religius belives is hugly inspired by Norse mythology. Aasheim I se more of an Olympys than as Norse. Also many other cultures can easaly be incorperated like the naitive sami in Northern Scandinavia.

The porblem with "Surfing space marine" is that moast of the poeple who se it picture surfing spacemarines with slugans sutch as Cowabunga and Surf's up. These TMNT quotes are cool, but not very Space Wolves. And we already have som pretty cool surfboards in 40.k who are called Discs of Tzeench. DoT are very cool but people do not think of them as surfeboards because they are done very diferently thematicaly and they allso look quite diferent.

The dark eldar also have surfeboards, although this is more a flying stick with spruces where you can fight from. If you realy want to do surfing marines, then please do. How ever I would think you would be mutch more pleased with the resolt if you managed to make it look better then just a plain surfeboard.

Also there are loads of referenses in norse mythology (and other mythos) that could fitt to make flying units. Loke and another of the other Norse gods keept messing about with an "hamn" witch does not have a good translation but it is a second skin. You putv it on and you become that animal. While out of theme for young pups, it would be exelent for a psyker with a yetpack to instead be like a giang half man half bird.

If you mannaged to fit thematicaly sky claws with a model that looked narativly cool, I think you would be more happy then just plain surfers. But hey, Cowabunga!

I dont think they look silly.

First of all when SW say wolves they do not think of the near extinct scmapering things here on Earth, it is like 90% of all the bad creatures (and there are quite many!) on Fenris is a wolf of one shape or another. I mean these are cunning things, mutant (not tainted by caos but by some weard genetic mixup (or maube caos, they are pretty close to the eye) wolves! I mean come on, they rock, and they are mean. The once riden into battle are further argumented by cybernetics, like the 6 million dollar man, or wolverine with the adamantium.

Second some of the space wolfs are half wolf themself atleast in behaviur (the wulfen) and the canis(?) helix mutated some of the 13th company into giant walking wolfs, so they are not so different.

Although I must say it is highly unorthodox. It is like a throwback to He-Man and Battle-Cat.

The surfeboards would look more like this:

or him

Edit: Like this, this is cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsgIzU51Mr0...feature=related It is not to big and cheesy.

Worst case senario would be this tail spinn caracter in the intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVR1qLHUZ3k...feature=related

Flying surf boards are just very not cool by defenision. But they can be cool, just as long as he does something cool with them like the Chaos or Dark eldar.
