bravelybravesirrobin
Yeah GH may be cheap in a 1-1 comparison but you gotta take into account other factors like how they fit into the book. C:SM get ld9 squads as standard for a start. But it's also the other factors in the book. An army of GH wouldn't win you the game. But yes they are pretty awesome. If properly equipped sand transported they probably could actually. If you've got a good 3-4 Grey Hunter packs in your army with meltaguns and some way to move them around then you've got your meat and potatoes everything else in the list is usually just gravy. But gravy is delicious and fun! Bloodclaws in the current codex don't come out well on a comparison with Grey Hunters (or with skyclaws, thundercav, wolfguard, etc i.e. all the other units that do the same job but better and sometimes cheaper) but they aren't a terrible unit by any means. If used as a shock and awe in an LRC they can be relied upon to pretty much kill whatever you point them at or on foot in a big pack they make a nice "sweeper" to support first wave assault units that are struggling or deal with any enemy units that broke loose from the first wave. Just remember that they are now decidedly a "gravy" unit. Oh and one quick question. If a Grey Hunter fires his meltagun in the shooting phase can he switch to bp/ccw for assault or is he stuck using the butt of the meltagun for the rest of that turn? And if the latter may he switch to bp/ccw in the enemy's assault phase? Hotspur
Blood Claws effectively get five attacks by your logic. They also happen to be the largest pack we can run, 15 bodies in power armour is scary. They also happen to be fun, but I guess some people don't see that side. I agree. I still field two full squads. No, they may not be as "good" as GHs, but the look on peoples' faces when you say you have 60 attacks on a charge from that squad is priceless. Between my two squads, that's 120 attacks. Granted, some of them don't make it into melee, but 4A on a charge and 3A on a counter is awesome, even if they are WS 3. JCarter
Bobman points out an important fact. You have to compare the the units in the whole spectrum of missions. GHs receive an advantage over SM (but not CSM) from their bolter, BP and CCW armament. But note that SM squads can have heavy weapons and can take an R-back without having to reduce the squad size. Also, having "squad leaders" costs SW an elite and does not for SM. The advantages in one area or phase do not win battles in themselves but do constrain how you must use them to get the most effect.
