Thunderpup
This happened to me last night, and i got to wondering... 9 GHs + WG, all the Grey Hunters got shot down, leaving just the WGPL. Q: Does he still count as a scoring troop? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186023-wolf-guard-pack-leaders/ Share on other sites
Wolf Lord Mjolnir
I would say yes. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186023-wolf-guard-pack-leaders/#findComment-2199662 Share on other sites
Tograth
Yes. When he was added to the GH, he stopped being part of his WG squad, instead, he became part of the GH unit, meaning he counts as a GH. In this case, He remains a troops choice, as he is still leading the GH pack, even though the pack is down to 0 members. Lumdin
I would like to see that in a FAQ from GW. because I have had that argued differently, saying since it was purchased as an elite, the wg doesnt count as a troop choice for capturing objectives if he is the last one standing after his pack he is attached to is killed off. stinkenheim
they are treated as squad sergeants when attatched, they are not IC so don't revert back to their original FOC slot. nor are they deployed along with other elites in the deployment phase. they are also not treated as seperate units in close combat... i would argue that they are a member of whatever unit they join. also it was exactly the same in the previous codex, they were purchased as elites but treated as a squad member when attached. Grey Mage
I would like to see that in a FAQ from GW. because I have had that argued differently, saying since it was purchased as an elite, the wg doesnt count as a troop choice for capturing objectives if he is the last one standing after his pack he is attached to is killed off. Doesnt matter, its not a retinue- he is an upgrade character, much like the IG specials, or Telion- they dont stop being part of the unit just because its dead since they lack the IC rule. Thus, since they cannot rejoin their own unit *there being no rules for it* they must still be part of the *almost* dead unit they were attached to at the begining of the battle. Inquisitor Kravin
If anybody thinks that's unfair then you could always frighten them with the implications of their interpretation - in an army led by Logan Grimnar the WolfGuard would be chosen as Troops so you could attach WGPLs to Swiftclaws, Long Fangs and Scouts and make them effectively scoring on the grounds that they contain a WGPL who was bought as part of a Troops choice! I think that what seems to currently be the majority opinion - the WGPL is an upgrade character and part of the unit he is attached to - is far less open to abuse than the alternative interpretation. Still, an FAQ would be nice. I think that the fact that in order to get any veteran sergeants in the army a Space Wolf player has to sacrifice an Elites slot shows that the codex is not overpowered or unfair. There is a good balance of pros and cons about many of the choices and to try to exclude the Pack Leader from being scoring seems unfair (and I say this as someone is primarily a player against Wolves rather than with Wolves). You have the right mentality! Nothing is without sacrifice.
