Primarch_Leman_Russ
Question: Can Rhinos block 50% of a dread? I was thinking of adding a dread (still have my vernerable left over from 3rd edition I want to use) but I know they are fragile. I do not want to Drop Pod it, but walk it up board hopefully hidding behind rhino for 4+ cover save? Does this actually work in a game or are the Dreads to big to claim cover from Rhinos? Also, can a dread shoot over a rhino? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186066-dreads/ Share on other sites
nurglespuss
Hmmm personally, I think in (friendly) games, It ould be a case of no, he's not tall enough, can you trace a line of fire from his weapon mount to the enemy? Nope, I know thats not 'game-binding' but it seems pretty fair to me. stinkenheim
yes a rhino can block enough of a dread to give him a save... no a dread shouldn't be able to fire OVER the rhino... he can however fire past it. the weapon is mounted on the side, you can quite easily leave the weapon pointing past the side of a rhino without having the enitre dread in full view. and because LOS is measeured from the weapons its a fairly easy thing to manage. whilst be cheesy it is not against the rules. the main downside is that the weapon would only be able to fire at half the battlefield and some units (because the dread isn't directly behind the rhino but pushed to one side) would be able to see enough of it to ignore the cover save, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186066-dreads/#findComment-2200192 Share on other sites
Niiai
Haha...the dread is playing peek-a-boo with his double lasgun. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186066-dreads/#findComment-2200449 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
Rhino can easily provide a cover save to a dread. The weapon is the only thing that has to draw line of sight so keep that in mind. I have also found that a dread can shoot over the top of infantry w/o penalty while still getting a cover save in return. If your opponent feels that its not quite enough for a 4+ save, they usually will settle on a 5+ save which is better than nothing at all. Nadir
I've always play the rule, that if you can shoot at the model, he can shoot back (only if the model is any type of infantry/bike/cavalery or walker. Raulmichile
Related question: Infantry grants cover save to Rhinos? (provided they are enough models to cover the vehicle, of course). Physically I think they do cover more than 50% of a Rhino... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186066-dreads/#findComment-2200550 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
That would be a ALOT of infantry, and only against models of similar height. That being said, it could be done. However what I really wanted to mention was that Dreadnaughts werent all that fragile... just make sure you give them extra armor, and keep the DCCW, even if he gets shaken every turn, hell eventually hit the enemy lines, and death will come quickly to your enemies. Or to your dread with so many hidden Power fists out there :D But at least the extra-armoured dread ate some shots that could have been shot to other targets ;) That would be a ALOT of infantry, and only against models of similar height. That being said, it could be done. So, PA marines can't grant cover but Termies/Ogryns/Meganobs and similar infantry could?
