WIP - AssaultCannon RazorBack: UPDATE Need advice!

UPDATE:

hi all, just did a tad more before bed, tracks are waiting to be stuck on, and decided the name scroll was what was missing. I need some way to 'kill' the edges of the transfers (the odd off-colour area arounf them). I've been thinking a good coat of varnish might do this for me? any ideas? (they already have a layer of fixing-varnish to stop em coming off).

Anyway...

Its tricksy and not quick, but I like it [quicker to hand paint it!])

UPDATE:

Hi all! just another quick update, not had chance to do much, just more transfers, and a bit of light weathering (thats hard to see!) didn't want to do much til all transfers on, so that they don't look daft!

So still pretty basic at this point, but I've tried to make the tank markings make sense (the tanks name will be thunder-axe or similar, suggestions please!), the skulls are there to be, well, scary! to the enemy.

I'm just now debating what colour to paint the 3d details, and whether to add the 'name scroll' to the front....

thanks all!!

---------------------

Update: Well, once again painting when I should have gone to bed! Quick updated, and foronce, the chassis didn't need to be glued to the roof! it just all slotted and stuck!

I'll be weathering that beaten grey down, applying damage etc B) I'm pleased with the transfers, what do you think? I'll do a bit of work on the haz stripes just to get the look I'm after...

Comments appreciated as always!!

Update:

Well I went for yellow in the end ;) I think'll look good next to the grey, just started weathering it, and will add transfers etc (as I'm experimenting with them - i.e. over coming fear of). Cheers!

Hi all! I like to get your opion as I go along, cause you usually give me some pretty cool ideas...

Well, I usually shy away from assault cannons, but seeing as I only have 1 (dreadnought) in my army so far, and that I thought it would look really cool, I opted for the very expensive razor back option ;) Early stages so far, but any ideas appreciated!!

Thanks guys!!

Red would be good, but I don't know if that would be too much red in a block? Maybe spread it out slightly on the tank, say the side and top hatches, or the gun casing and the sidehatches?

Tbh I am not a big space pups buff, so I don't know if red has any special meaning/squad markings or junk!

If you've got a spare £11 or so order the LR crusader sprue from GW. It comes with a twin linked assault cannon pod that sits nicely in the predator hole - job done ;)

I'm hoping for 3 preds in my army (two lascaonnon, one assault) :D

Your Pred is looking nice though, who's going to ride inside??

Hi :D

I'm putting 6 blood claws in for now, but later, I may replace them with wolf guard ;) (once I get an 'old' razorback for my blood claws)

Yeah dread nought ass cannons, had some spare from previous conversions (I seem to be emptying my poor bitz box at the moment!). to be honest it was a bit of a bugger to do :P would definately be better off using the landraider ones! :P

i really like the dread cannons you've used. makes the back end much beefier and makes the turret as a whole look more balanced. i'm assuming anyone that builds a dread but doesn't use the assault cannon will have these bits spare, so should be a few around somewhere i can trade for. :)

edit: haha, just noticed you've used goblin shields as 'wicker' seat covers. nice touch.

I Love It!!.. Not alot more I can say then that.. Its simply Great thus far..

Tamiya used to make some Aluminum Shell Casings but the discontinued them a long time ago.. they are a great addition to any model. Ill have to find somewhere to get them again..

needs a more side on view to see how the yellow works with the grey as a whole. the stippled grey is interesting though. btw, are the hazard markings (strips and triangles) some kind of transfer or masking? they'd better not be just freehand because they're crazy neat. my chapter makes extensive use of hazard markings so would be of personal interest. <_<

Hey there <_< thanks!

@ Shiodome: they are transfers ;) I normally freehand everything, but I'm trying to overcome my fear of transfers (to try and speed up painting the army) - need to buy some micro sol/set.

I'm just debating now whether to paint the shell casings grey or metal, I'll post a side pic etc. once I've done more work :)

Thanks!!

Great work Nurglespuss. I've never been a fan of painting vehcles and I've learned a lot just by looking at your pics. You should make a step-by-step tutorial in your blog (ie if you have one, I haven't checked). If you do send me a PM so I can join the lesson, just warn me if you're going to paint another yellow tank so I can wear some shades. :P

LOL! Cheers, thanks alot!

On my next tank, I'll definately do step by step.

as a quick one though: the grey is fenris grey over black (2 thinned coats): mix 1:1 highlight of fenris/astro: mix another 1 part of astro for second highlight: stipple on another highlight (another 1 part of astro): stipple on another highlight (pure astro): dry brush skull white on the edges :P
