Lone Wolf a MUST in every 1.500 list?

Well in my opinion they are a real OP unit, for 85 Pts you get a lone wolf with TDA Chain Fist and Storm Shield. This setup makes him a god amonth men.

If you run him behind tanks youll have him in assault range to multy assault with your GHs.

They can be used to protect others units, contest targets, eat enemy shoots, anything you really like, he only bad thing about them is that you must play them more agresibily in anihilation missions, but thats not a big problem imo.

Im using them right now in this list

This is my army as im playing it right now, I must say its nice to abuse the cheaper "IC" character of any race so far ---> LoneWolves

I run them behind my LRR, behind my Rhino, keep them with GH and LFs for defensive porposes, those guys are able to contest targets and eat alone full enemy firepower for several rounds if necesary.

Coments please?

I spent some time converting one, but to be honest, he's probably only going to apear in small games.

As prev said, I want dreadnoughts (2) and then its a choice between wolfguard or lone wolf, well, wolf guard are the more useful tool in my opinion. Its a shame that 40k force organisation charts arent more like fantasy (shudder, I normally shun Fantasy [at least until its fixed - hopefully next edition] where there is a little more flexibility, but also a higher demand on troops.

I'd have to agree with Grey Mage. I play an entirely mechanized force and having tried a Lone Wolf at 1500 points, find that he's far too slow to keep up. I can't afford to waste points giving him a transport of his own, and even with run he just can't keep up or contribute anything.

I'd prefer that there was no FOC at all. Ever.

"Play Apocalypse" you say. Yes, I'm working on that.

After the troops and WolfGuard slot is gone I look at Dreads or Scouts, Landspeeders and some heavy support before adding more characters to my army becomes appealling.

They are good but they aren't essential by any means.

The point is that Lone wolf with TDA/CF/SS survability >>>> a dreadnought, and i prefeer having a Lone wolf fighting with my GH unit than a WG pack leader.

In my opinion Lonewolfs are great to use as u can hide them behind units or tanks and charge after. I like to run up my LRR in cruise speed firing my MM and my Asscannon, same goes with the rhino, i like my RP there to shoot LL. so my Lonewolves have no problem catching up and staying hide behind them, (modeling ftw).

On the other hand in Anihilation battles i tend to let them more in the open so they can eat some shoots.

So far I´ve tested Lonewolves VS Riflemen dreadnoughts in my list and Lonewolves fits better in my stile of play, I need that CC units more than the extra shoots.

Go with whatever you like. Lone wolfs look great and they are hard to play right against since they often produce lose-lose senarios for you roponent.

3 was a bit mutch since you have no acess to the famous WG. But keep on rokking with them.

I half agree with you. I think they are a good choice for low-medium point games, but like someone has said, the slot is better used for something else in bigger games. I also think three with identical loadout is a waste of points and Elite slot.

I also think your army is badly constructed (and unfluffy), you dont need 3 RPs, replacing at least one with a WL is much better points IMO, and I would never really take more than two ICs for less than 1500-1800. And the grey hunters will be in trouble after a couple of casualties - it would be more economical and better tactical sense to have two squads of ten and get that extra special weapon. But it's your army, that's just my C&C!
