wizard12
hi guys inspired by the GW indomitable fortress I thoguht I would look into making my own and, as I think it could be interesting, an inquisitorial fortress would be quite interesting. I think that it would be quite large (more than 3 bunker anxesses) but I have decided that, should I do this, I would keep only a single main tower. I was thinking that it could have one very large door (much like medievial wooden castle gates) and it would be onto of a short hill (about an inch or two high) As far as I was thinking, it could have a main tower with twin-lnked interceptor lascannon on top, then a main door anexxe and 2 or 3 extra wall sections with a courtyard in the middle. It would be sort of a small fortress at the moment but I'm sure that I might add a skyshield landing pad into the design and mabye a few more bunker sections. As for the shapes, I was thinking maybe hexagonal or pentagonal as, in my knowleage, those shapes tend to play an important part in dealing with "cretures of the night", with a small coutyard in the middle. I do have a drawn concept for the main tower and door anexxe but I'm sure no-one would be interested in my bad drawing and handwriting skills. just wondering what you guys thought as I'm bound to have a bit of money left over from christmas and it's about time I got some sort of terrain. Thanks in advance wizard12 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186213-inquisitorial-fortresses-what-do-they-look-like/ Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
As far as I can tell from various fluff, the Inquisition doesn't tend to have obvious fortresses anywhere. Those it has tend to be secret and unobtrusive. However, this is not to say it wouldn't be a SWEET looking project! What I would do if it were me, would be to have the dominant color of the fortress black (Black Ships, Black Fortress?), and instead of using the pieces with the angels, perhaps scratch build some giant Inquisitorial =][= 's or something to take their place. Sticking to the common theme of Inquisition colors of Black and Red, with some White, you could get some really sweet looking terrain. Alternatively, the Inquisition is also fond of simply commandeering someone else's fortress... so if you have other non-Inquisition Imperial forces, you could make the fortress up in their colors. Perhaps a Space Marine Chapter that your Inquisitor is allied with, or a local planetary PDF force, or an Imperial Guard Regiment. Endless possibilities! I look forward to seeing any results of your work :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186213-inquisitorial-fortresses-what-do-they-look-like/#findComment-2202063 Share on other sites
Artein
But remember, it must be dark, grim and gothic.... :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186213-inquisitorial-fortresses-what-do-they-look-like/#findComment-2202073 Share on other sites
morcus
There are alot of fluff mentions of obvious Inquisitorial fortresses and Palaces, places feared by normal folk. Eisenhorne/Ravenor Series mention a couple that seem to be known to the general populace. I woud say go more Cathedral than Castle, thats how I've always imagined they'd look. I would make it modular If i was doing it as a fortress would likely be huge and making many different peices gives you options. And maybe some Sanctum Imperialis and Basilica Administratum. The skulls used in the walls are real. BrotherLoki
I would imagine most of any given Inquisitorial fortress is subterranean, with only the gatehouses etc above ground. this is how I justify the tiny Dark angels one to myself as well. With that idea in mind you can concentrate on a big entrance and some guard towers etc, and not worry to much about actually having space for rooms and such. Now that would be a good excuse for a game with 2 seperate boards... I would say like Brother Loki but make it quite big still Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186213-inquisitorial-fortresses-what-do-they-look-like/#findComment-2205195 Share on other sites
wizard12
right guys, heres what I've been working on. I know the inquisitorial signs are a bit out of shpe, the windows/fire points arn't all the same size or that most of the fortress is non-semetrical. I'm working with limited skill and reasorces on this thing (googlescetchup7 and just started GCSE's) edit: sorry, the pictures are playing up. I post the HTML code into the box, it come up on the post screen and when I post, poof! it disapears. I'll try links. http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy355/F...conceptfron.jpg http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy355/F...conceptside.jpg http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy355/F...concepttrue.jpg what do you guys think. Just remeber its a first concept so I havn't done much work on it. Inquisitor Fox
I was reminded of an Apocalypse Data Sheet which is on the GW site, the Orbital Defense Laser. It's a datafax for a large building with a super huge cannon that fires into orbit, and can be armed with autocannons and heavy bolter defenses. It has structure points and everything :) That could be a neat adaptation for your planned fortress. Just a suggestion .. the large laser could look really neat on the top of the tower!
