SamaNagol
Having an extra Psycannon BC is only any use if you are footslogging or teleporting your GKT. And I wouldn't recommend that personally. The only person it really makes any difference with is the GM because the BC has only one wound and basically identical stats to a normal GKT anyway. And GMs are far better suited to combat as opposed to shooting. Personally I would always run a GM with a retinue, and if I wanted to cram in more shooting I would just get a 5 man PAGK squad with 2 Psycannon. jeffersonian000
I've found that if you focus on range, you are better off with a BC + Elite GKT. However, if you are focusing on close combat, a DM + retinue is the way to go. Grand Master Caloth
IMO, Retinue EVERY time, even if you have to forgo the elite choice. Adding a retinue takes away his IC status, which means he cant be specifically targeted in CC, his retinue throwing themselves between their GM and the Daemon, to better give him his chance to strike the wicked menace down with one solid stroke of his sacred blade and holy power. number6
Retinue is the way to go, even if your GK Hero is just a BC. At some point you will want your GKTs in close combat -- it's what they do best -- and having what would otherwise be an Independent Character act and behave just as if he was a normal model in the unit is priceless. No messing with ensuring he makes base contact, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186249-gk-hero-bring-a-retinue-or-join-a-unit/#findComment-2202627 Share on other sites
Empty Bolter Clip
Have to agree with what has already been said... retinue is the way to go for damage mitigation. If you know your taking termies, and you know your putting your BC with them, then I see no real reason NOT to use a retinue. The only "advantage" to joining him to elite GKT would be the ability to break off from the unit, but again the disadvantages would outweigh the small advantage. In smaller point games in which I may not be taking GKTs, I have no problem him attaching him to a squad of PAGK, but that drastically changes his role. Gear wise, the general consensus seems to be to "go cheap", with the standard Stormbolter/NFW and stay away from too many flashy extras unless your filling points. Best of luck in your smiting! jeffersonian000
I disagree with retinues for a BC. I've found that in close combat, my opponents are forced to allocate hits between my IC BC, which they have to charge first, or my GKT which includes another BC. What I get is a unit that is more survivable due to how IC's disrupt close combat. I do not do this with a GM, mostly because of how much he costs compared to the other GKT in his retinue. silversmith82
Only time I'd ever run anything as an IC would be the triple psycannon GKT unit. with an attached BC. Otherwise no, def not. Even your GM with multi wounds does not have eternal warrior so why in hell would you EVER risk him to a hidden powerfist by not giving him a retinue? Grand Master Caloth
GM, with Icon, Hammerhand, Incense, and Grimoire, NFW/SB (until we get the good Storm Shields(never gonna happen...)), with a 5-man Retinue with a Psycannon and one TH/SS Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/186249-gk-hero-bring-a-retinue-or-join-a-unit/#findComment-2203691 Share on other sites

jeffersonian000
Yes, Psycannons on Terminator armour can fire 36", as they use the heavy profile since Terminator armour counts as standing still when firing ranged weapons. And as you are going with a GM, you will want to include a good sized retinue. Remember, you must allocate wounds to the GM if there are as many or more wounds than models in the GM's unit, which means he can still get insta-killed. I'd go with as many GKT in his retinue as you can afford to fit in your army list.
