Leman Russ Exterminator

Wolf Guard Dan

Recommended Posts

So new codex, new rules: No Leman Russ. Why bother saving that Forge World on the way back to Terra and letting the Emperor die if we cannot even field the tank named after our Wolf Father?

I know we can field LRE's in Apoclypse sized games but I am not a big apoclypse guy. So I have come up with this.

Okay, are there any legal rules to field Imperial Guard as a detatchment? I know asking your buddy if it is okay makes it fieldable. But I am a stickler when it comes to rules. And it is also important for me to stick with the fluff.

To explain the lower BS skill I would say the LRE has just been delivered and a new crew is training with it. And this new crew is Blood Claws because it is best to bond vehicle and crew at the earliest point possible, right?

Maybe a techpriest engineeer from the forgleworld came to deliver it himself with his entourage of engineers (regular squads of rank and file guardsmen/ troop choice). This group would be responsible for training the Blood Claws and in game terms, keeping the backside of the LRE free of krak and melta bombs from scouts or fast units.

Of course this is only kosher if you can field detatchments in games of 2k or less points.

Any other ideas ruleswise of fluffwise? I jus thought of this idea earlier and I wanted to pass it by ya'll.

The only legitimate way I've heard to use it as a "counts as" predator destructor... but that's just not good enough for me. I don't think there are detachments of IG in the legal rule set, so it might have to be either apocalypse or agreeing with a buddy. I really wish they had left it in as my original Leman Russ Exterminator has served me well for many years... since 2001, if I recall correctly.

Personally I say just use it in Apocalypse, you could even make a Datasheet or get your opponents permission to upgrade it's BS to 4 to represent the Space Marine crew.

Other than that I don't see a legal way to field it in standard 40k games.

However wasn't there a brainstorming thread with almost the same title recently?

To be honest, seeing as it was only introduced last codex, I would say don't try and slot it back in. Again, fine for apocolypse games, or for special games where you can think up a reason. But the slim reasoning behind it baing available for space wolves is now gone, it was only to promoted sales of the new model :P

I think fileding it as a predator sounds good, but I don't know if you saw it, but someone on this forum made a brilliant lemanruss/vindicator conversion, melding the 2 kits, so that it 'looks' like a space marine lemanruss, that might be what your looking for :o
