WIP: Moriar the Chosen, Death Company Dreadnaught

IronKobra

Recommended Posts

Since the new Ironclad is such a cool model decided to make a cool character! I much prefer the new Ironclad powerfist to the old style stubby. Only problem is it only comes with it on the right side, so with a little conversion I put together one for the left too and with the appropriate guns have modeled Moriar in a new set of threads.

These are still VERY early stages, have since primed and started painting, but this gives the general idea of the model.

More recent pic, he is primed, most of the metal has been started, and the start if the red done with machrite. I intend to keep the whole model quite dark, brooding and imposing.

This is awesome :D I may have to do this instead...

question: how come you got a second cc weapon on the other arm? I'm assuming conversion - if so, how?

The answer to the question 'how come' is just because Moriar was the Character dread with 2 powerfists in 3rd ed which spawned our classic Blood Angels Furioso pattern dread. I just prefer the Ironclad version of the Powerfist to the regular stubby version.

'How' was a simple conversion using a spare 'hand' and the chainfist arm from the Ironclad box and simply chop and change the end piece.

Just for kicks I thought I would show my OLD Moriar, from way back when they first released the 'Furioso' pattern and put him next to my new and improved version:

I am liking the change so far B)

Spent a little more time on this before I get to finishing my Vanguards, nice to break off and paint something different. Still getting lots of base coats down, but paid some attention to front sarcophagus details.

He is still not stuck together, so the wonky smoke launcher will be straight once it's done and I am still deciding on a pose.

That looks really cool, You should do deeper grey highlights on the black edges. So it can stand out.

Highlights are still to come. The paint at this stage is still very much just base coats aside from the front 'face'. Think will be mostly a 50/50 mix of codex grey on black on all the edges...Then straight codex on all the top most edges.

The skull on the front has been done up to bleached bone going from Graveyard to desert yellow up to bone. pics up as soon as I get some more good light.

Any suggestions on the colour for his search light anybody?

Ok, just a small update now. I have mainly added some washes to his tabards and seals and also worked on the skulls around the model, working from graveyard, to desert yellow to bleached bone and then washed with sepia, and added a layer of shining gold to the sarcoughagus and washed again with sepia. Will highlight both again in the final stages.

The pics are awful I know, just a phone cam and bad light today!

really nice, how do you achieve your gold/bronze colour??

The gold is worked up from:

- Black undercoat

- 50/50 mix of Scorched brown and Shining Gold

- Sepia Wash

- Shining gold

- Sepia wash.

That is what stages have gone on so far. then a highlight of 50/50 mix of shining gold and mythril silver and a watered down sepia wash. I have some vanguards on this forum too who have had highlights so you can see the final effect.

I love the effect sepia has, really seems to enrich the deep browns of the gold without making them too drab or dirty.

Some minor advances on the painting, nothing worth mentioning really, however I have just mocked him up using blu-tac to get an idea of how the model will look.
